You need 3 minerloads (std faction miner) and He3 Yield 1 hits break even.
While He3 Speed 1 gives you only 9 sec advantage on mining speed/run, it doesn't really help you to get AdvTech faster, only about 45 secs with std mining speed of 1 (Dreg about a minute).

fuller examples:
TF miner: 90 * 0.55 / 2 = 24.75 secs
TF Speed 1: 22.5
TF Speed 2: 20.45r
Rix miner: 90 * 1 / 1 = 90 secs
Rix Speed 1: 81.81r
Rix Speed 2: 74.38
Dreg miner: 90 * 0.75 / 0.65 = 103.85 secs
Dreg Speed 1: 94.40909r
Dreg Speed 2: 85.83
Giga miner: 90 * 1.25 / 1 = 112.5 secs
Giga Speed 1: 102.27r (*should be 101.95 for 10% off??)
Giga Speed 2: 92.96
I can think of situations where it would pay to have that much of a decrease.
(*and is it me or is that less than a 10% increase using pkk's formula...)

I still don't understand, how does it "pay to have that much of a decrease" vs. getting the same amount of money in the same amount of time, while having the option of mining even more money per load?
Rix miner, no GA's:
$7200 / 90 sec = $80/sec
faster GA 1:
$7200 / 81.818 sec = $88/sec
yield GA 1:
$7920 / 90 sec = $88/sec
A 10% increase in mining speed translates into a 9.1% decrease in mining time.
Yield GA is like a capacity GA and a faster GA combined, with the added bonus that you can get more total money on low money settings. No one says yield GA is overpowered, but I get the impression that many people intuitively expect faster GA to a worthwhile first pick under certain conditions. I know I did. As it is, the only upside to choosing faster GA first is that if you ignore your miners, they'll spend less time sitting in assault sectors.
It occurs to me that there is one thing I've been ignoring, and that's the choice between yield GA 2 and faster GA 1.
Rix miner, yield GA 1:
$7920 / 90 sec = $88/sec
yield GA2:
$8712 / 90 sec = $96.8/sec - $2500 investment
yield GA1, faster GA1:
$7920 / 81.818 sec = $96.8/sec - $2000 investment
So, you always want to start with yield GA 1, but the choice between faster GA 1 and yield GA 2 is a question of whether you can mine continuously, or have only a few loads still available.
My proposed change:
Rix miner, yield GA 1:
$7776 / 90 sec = $86.4/sec - $2000
faster GA 1:
$7200 / 80.357 sec = $89.6/sec - $2000
yield GA2:
$8398 / 90 sec = $93.3/sec - $4500
yield GA1, faster GA1:
$7776 / 80.357 = $96.8/sec - $4000

To much maths, to little giving a @#(!.

Doesn't matter if it takes you 5 secs to suck out 20 units of helium or 4 secs, it's still 20 units of helium. And that extra second doesn't really mean miner d can slack off any less.

So... your argument is that faster He3 is entirely useless? Let's assume one hour of mining with plenty of He, with an average of two minutes for a rix miner to to travel to the ref and back. Admittedly, an optimal situation.
Without the GA:
90+120 sec per trip, 3600/210 = 17 loads per miner, *4 miners, $489,600 total.
Faster GA1:
82+120 sec per trip, 3600/202 = 17 loads per miner.
Okay, yeah, it's entirely useless. Wtf? I mean, you'll get your techs a few seconds earlier than the enemy, all things being equal, but that's not that big a bonus. Over a longer period, you might manage to mine more than without the GA, but yield is much more reliable.

It's useful. Leave it how it is, it's situation dependent, maybe raise it to 15% but then it could go OP.

Hmm. Comp, when you put it that way, ship accel GA saves more time than HE Speed GA.

yeah, lets spend 15k on a shipyard just to be able to buy speed `4
