Beam weapons
It is a mini death star
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.

That is the weapon firing about 1000 times per second, with a life span of 1/1000th of a second. Going to experiment with it later for the least amount of firing time and longer lifespan.
The main issue with the weapon is that the effects happen at the base of the projectile - which is right at the gun. My thought was to make it red instead of blue and have it be a 'targeting laser' and have the actual weapon be invisible. X-ray laser FTW, perhaps?
My thought for the use would be as a turret weapon for Faction X (Would be pretty good for shooting down missiles) and a different beam weapon as the bomber gun. The bomber gun would use ammunition, as it's a lot easier to control the firing that way.

Yeah, it's a shame. Since the laser/beam inherits the lighting, it tends to look like a bit like a blue pole. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Jul 31 2008, 03:43 AM) IIRC the problem is that, unlike sprites, they don't glow so they don't look as spiffing as they ought to.
It's also just a plain old blue block as the texture.
I plan on having a spiffy texture - If I can get the transparency working, it'll actually have two layers. A 'base' layer and then a 'lightning'-y layer on top of that.
EDIT: And for those curious about the flamethrower:

Couldnt you make it a white core within red tube with a gaussian blur to give it a "light saber" effect?Sushi wrote:QUOTE (Sushi @ Jul 31 2008, 06:54 PM) Yeah, it's a shame. DAMN! I wonder if madpeople or mesial have any ideas.Andon wrote:QUOTE (Andon @ Jul 31 2008, 07:29 PM) You can't have partial transparency. Either there is color there, or it's completely transparent. You might be able to dither it some, but it would be difficult
