so how do i run a lan game?

Not with LAN. You have to connect to the lobby in order for the AU to work. And unless you're authorized, it doesn't connect to the lobby

Just did an install using the instructions above

I got a server error because of the artwork. I think that needs to be added into the page (I did what andon said and it worked!)

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
