If the enemy gets caps and you have tactical get killer and EMP mines.

EMP mines will drop the shields in a split second, and the killers pack quite a punch vs heavy hull.

Killers are good against shields too, but its better to let a couple EMP mines take them down as caps are mostly shields anyways.

The problem with that logic, is that Tactical is designed around killing the enemy econ to prevent them from even getting near being able to afford all that expensive Shipyard tech.

Wrong, utl3 kills miners faster.

I had a thought about it, and in the end, its not that useless after all, no really. If you compare :

Prox Diameter : 200m
EMP mine Diameter : 500m,
which means that bbr will notice the mine, will try to dodge it (he is used to dodging mines, even if they are EMPs), hence will have to dodge a 500m mine, instead of 200m, making it even slower and giving you more time to hunter the nans.

Prox capacity : 1
EMP mines capacity : 3
Easier to spam, and much more effective. It will not kill the scouts, but it will strip their shields off, making it 1-hit kill, instead of 2 hits.
EMP mines can be worthless in a dogfight, but on a bomber defense they are as effective as prox mines if you are playing against a vet team and chose TAC techpath. You cant research proxmines in TAC, scouts can still use their proxes when you are TAC, but having to kill shieldless scouts, when you spammed emps with you sf, is much easier than having to spend 2 hunter3 instead of 1.
On the other note, is it just me, or on dn6 emp2 does some hull damage as well?
So the question is, why is it not used? It gives you advantage, you can easily camp aleph with proxes, but there are a lot of times when you are forced to drop prox infront of a running bomber and not on an aleph..
I use EMP mines when my commander gives them to me.

The fact that the bomber has to dodge the mines for 500 meters is pretty cool... forgot about that. I've only bought EMP mines once as commander. They worked pretty decent when camping. I'm not sure what I like better, prox or emp mines.

I like the name too... Emp mines... just sounds cool to me :-)...

Togehter with killers, they are an excellent anti-nix strategy. Kill the econ with tac, the only option they have is to bomb, which they can't because of the emp missiles getting rid of the shields and the killers taking huge chunks out of the hull /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hmmm ... do EMP mines work against Phoenix? In which case, wouldn't that make their shield-stripping power quite handy against the high level Phoenix Shields of Doom™?
