Remember ripping. When you have the rip upgrades and things don't look that well, hit the r key to escape or gain range on your enemy (if you teleport to the same sector).

In the beginning of the game, I *always* take dumbfires. Without exception.

Later on, I'll usually take whatever missile has the highest tech, although I prefer seekers against SFs/SBs. If tied, dumbs win again. You can hit any ship with them, given the right luck/timing. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I rarely bother with QF. Comms usually don't consider QF upgrades worth researching unless they are rolling in cash; there are better things to spend it on. Still, I'm starting to think that although QF3 may not usually be worth the research effort, it's pretty decent once you have it.

As for "don't circle dogfight in a fig..." IMO, that's good advice but mainly applies vs ints (and figs with better guns than you). If you're against SFs, scouts, or weaker figs, you might as well close the distance and maximize the use of your firepower.

Everytime I've tried taking seekers cause we have Seek2 vs Dumb1, I have managed to find an unescorted con/miner and failed to kill it due to lack of damage output.

Here a tac I like to use, Warning to others this is a luck tac, an normly fails to a experince player, Load QF in you missles slot then load something like a seeker or a DF, lock on with each and every quickfire, and hope he drops all his chaff then load your other missles and shoot him, if people yell at me, the point is that, it gives you that much upper hand,

QFs can also be used as a panic device. =)

... Weren't you going to be in Beez's new squad? Yeah. You were. And Beez wonder's why yeah, you know what. Gah.

If your smart, and you pay attention enough, the different missiles have different tones when they are fired at you. If you learn to differentiate between the tones, you can easily evade, ignore or drop chaff when needed. DF? Don't drop chaff, side thrust. Seekers, Zeus, Hunters? Drop chaff now. QF? Ignore the @#(! outa that missile and instead kill the idiot that decided to use it on you. Simple.

+1. Why does this always seem to be the rule and not the exception?!?! /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doh:" border="0" alt="doh.gif" />

You should really not be dogfighting with Sfigs or Scouts . . . . really!

If you are then two things are happening that shouldn't.

The Sfig or Scout pilot is not very bright and the second, you can't aim and need to practice /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Not much I can say here that hasn't been said already, but I'll add my two cents;

MRM Seekers are nice for taking out scouts and sfs from long range, as well as other fighters. They hit relatively hard against such lightly protected ships.
MRM Quickfires have a fast lock time but it's not instant. Don't dumbfire them or they'll miss, of course. Their tracking is good, but their damage is not so good.
SRM Dumbfires are pretty punchy but not much use in a dogfight in some cases. They tear up cons and miners like there's no tomorrow though.
LRM Hunters are pretty nice for offing nanning scouts, in my experience, although EW Snipers are also quite good at this.
