April Fools Gone Wrong
No wonder I thought something was fishy about it. It was kinda obvious some critical voices were being completely silent, which was the biggest strange thing going on.
As they say, timing is everything.
You guys suck at pranks. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
BTW: Next time you pull a prank, you need to be completely over the top if you're going to do it a week early. I mean... 3 hours for Beer? Joseph1 was more like it. WEEKS! And you needed more bans. Like, had you banned regular antistackers, it would've been ok. I would've been game to quit for a week. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
Oh well. Still, it was risky even then. Nice try I guess. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I think it was obvious the players were fake. But then again I probably have never played with half the active players we have now (assuming we've had a steady stream come in). And I didn't read that much of the thread. I didn't think of this being a joke, but thought the banning was a bit odd given the fake players and the log of TE didn't make any sense when he banned I think during the zone game? Wasn't really sure what was going on.
Probably was best to end the joke now though. IMO a good joke and not started too early, but just one that can't work on this community without such a strong backlash. Another game I play did their April Fool's joke a month or two ago to throw everyone off, but thats cheating.
This would have been a better idea that won't work now(fake loss of asgs database):
About Two Weeks before:
When logging in player had a random chance of getting a gibberish nick w/ random rank attached. This starts out with one or two "fake" players who post on the forums with the problem. Then others actually experience it and start posting trying to figure out whats going. A couple days later TE posts that the asgs database is corrupt and he restored to a backup database. Things are normal again.
Two-Three days before:
The random login problem starts happening again and TE/Pook "look into it" On March 31st the problem occurs more often. At some point on April 1st all logins give random gibberish callsigns and an hour later ASGS "crashes" An hour or two later TE writes saying they found the problem but the database has been corrupted beyond recovery (no backups early enough, that are completely uncorrupted). Allegiance is put up without ASGS for a few hours with TE stating that they will have to start over from scratch and are making plans to do so. That evening the truth is revealed and ASGS is restored to normal

The problem was that there were too many people waiting for something to happen to confirm their worst fears. So this prank came along and over the edge they went. /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doh.gif" /> When some of the backlash threads started, I nearly almost had a kneejerk reaction to respond in kind but something always told me not to hit submit, at least until today.Paradigm2 wrote:QUOTE (Paradigm2 @ Mar 24 2008, 11:45 PM) Man... I kept telling people to think about it, it only took me about 30 seconds.
And NO I was not privvy to this thread or information.
It was more:
1. Is this in character of TE and BV
2. Does it make any sense the people they banned
3. None of the other "main guys" in the community were saying anything.
Para, you did have the added hint when BV asked for more volunteers in the ACE forum. I was just too dense to add the days together to find out when everything was going to unfold. /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
