Well, what else does a new faction need?

mostly... to wait. We are already sitting on a couple new factions on the horizon... and after these new factions, it will likely be a while before the community has a huge demand for a new one. As always, having a new player getting interested in the development within the community can be a good asset, it means you're likely to stay, get involved, and become an everyday player (as ever, a very good thing). Play for a while, learn the dynamics between the different factions, and see if you can think of a niche that needs to be filled by another faction - and the community will support it, and it's more likely to actually get done (it's a lot of work, from what I understand, hehe)

P.S. - if you're talented with coding or artwork/modeling, texturing, etc... your help might be appreciated on the current projects, which could help speed up the development. Something we can all agree, would rock.... two weeks anyone?

Core work, of nearly any kind, makes 'a lot of work' look like a weekend in the park.

It's tough. A lot tougher than you think. And it's so tedious.

Also, there are two factions close to being released in various forms - Loriana's faction and Omnicron Hive.

Solaria, does this mean making factions is also part of core work? Do I have to make my own core to have my faction included?

yes and no.

yes part:
apart from making models for all your faction's ships and bases, they will need to have entries made in ICE for them along with all their researches etc (core work)
making a faction that can be played in game requires core work

the no part:
you can either complete your faction's models and say what values of hp and energy and mass and turn rates (and everything about them, though mostly they will be the same as other factions except where your faction has a special feature that makes that particular aspect different) and wait for one of the other core devs to include your faction in their core (could take a year or more). or you can make your own version of a core which has them in.
though you will probably want to do the second before the first happens so you can iron out any problems with them (of which there will be many, as is the nature of new factions)

Curiosity here, announcing the 'release' of a screenshot of the Armored Raptors Fighter mod on 3/28/2008. As you can see, it is actually a mod of the Phoenix Fighter, but with green patches to signify the Armored Raptor's love of nature (which was destroyed on the earth). You might notice that the full-size image sports some very bright patches of green. Let's just say those parts are shield emitters.

The Phoenix models are copyrighted. Or whatever the correct legal phrase is.

Oops, then who should I ask for permission to edit the models?

It's unlikely that you'll be able to, as Noir bought the rights to use the models from someone

What the?!

Well, that was unexpected. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Does that also include the textures? I only altered the textures, that's all.

Also, who was the 'someone' that Noir bought the rights from?
