Certainly when the autoban was first introduced it was based on looking at callsigns only. I am not aware of any change to using actual rank, but I may well have missed it /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I hear a lot of vocal people say things on either side. None of them have been Pook, BV, or TE.

I have asked TE for an exact clarification. ASGS is his sandbox.

Well this shouldn't be a problem in R4 so not really worth worrying about at this point

so if I'm understanding this thread correctly...

the suggestion is to fire the "WARNING" message 1 rank earlier than it currently is? Instead of informing them after they've crossed the threshold, warn them a rank before crossing?

From what I can read, that's exactly it

Yes.
Well, not "instead" but in addition. 6 -> 7 "Warning: you're about to cross the threshold". 7 -> 8 "Warning: You've crossed the threshold".

Although I, too, would like some clarification about the fluctuating ranks business. Because that is the main point of the warning - if the issue does not exist then there is no real need for this additional warning.

And why won't it be a problem in R4?

Newbie servers are locked on the Novice Only skill setting and those settings are enforced so only those who should be allowed on the newbie server can even access the server. I believe you get the message "You are the wrong rank for this mission" if you try to join but are not a novice or have +, @Alleg, @Zone, etc in callsign.

edit: well on the other hand, if a novice crosses over into intermediate after a game on the newbie server, Allegiance will probably still see the player as a novice but ASGS might not. Might not matter until they log in next. Hmm...

Small discussion going on in the ZL lounge. I am very seriously looking at lowering the rank to 4 for the newbie serves. Plus TE is working on a one rank to max message to be sent out to players. We have a few things happening in the next few days that have a lot of people tied up. This will get addressed.

Good work. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

One problem with the newb ranks is that with this helo thing (that could use another polishing) new players seem to wizz right through the early ranks, really really fast.
