it was basically a giant probe shaped like the build sphere (about same size too) that had base class hull so it could absorb an ab or 2 before you lt op got toasted.

New idea to me too. I've actually wondered about some similar ideas:

1. Similar to the described DEB, but smaller and flat. The idea is that you could place random walls of armor in various places. It probably won't work, though, because I don't think bases/probes/etc can have varying orientations.

2. A special ship with a fairly tough shield and very weak hull... but the shield would be a sphere several times bigger than normal. This ship would fly as part of an HTT or bomber run to provide extra protection.

And, for good measure, an idea that has nothing to do with the current discussion, but nevertheless cool: a nanite mine. Fly through it and it repairs you.

Probes have orientation. You could make a wall probe.

Question: What happened if you put a DEB on an aleph?

I was afraid of that. Scratch that one then.

You could make a temporary 'shield' type thing. You'd have to go in a straight line, but making a missile with a large CVH, no launch velocity or accelleration, and a longer lifespan would work. You wouldn't be able to fire out of it and it would probably require a special ship with a central 'deploy' point, but it could be interesting

-Loading DEB Shield on my Giga Scout (i think that's the only thing that could mount them).
-Then taking about 10 minutes to get up enough speed to go through an aleph.
-Going through the aleph about 100 MPS and having an enemy int turn around to boost and chase me.
-Drop the DEB Shield and watch the int ram it and die!
-Laugh as he has no idea what just happened (because he'd never seen it before).
This was one of the most amusing things on F3 to watch. You thought Lxy Scout were hard to turn once you got going? Load some DEB's and it was even more awesome!
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
