Heres the thing, when it comes to real battles its never just "1vs1" its always on a much larger scale, so if a team is using GS and another team is using Stags. The GS will win (assuming its fully loaded) Also if its 20 vs 20 in one sector, then the GS will own, u could have all ints but if they have GS they will win.
Mind you I haven't played this game as long as the rest of u, and Im sure you have a lot of skill but I'm sick of all this noob trashing, just because we'er knew doesn't mean u need to boast about how almighty u are and how u would never lose. I respect most of u but some of u whenever a noob even smiles that hes actually done something right you have to put him down because u didn't stop him.

Edit: I cant spell.

Saw a bad & good use of gunships earlier today.
1) Bad use. First the gunships tried to defend against our bomb run - however i) there was never more than one of them, ii) they shot the bomber and not the nans, and iii) they didn't stay out of range of our ac2 turrets. Consequently A 5-man bomb run (2 turrets, 2 nans) blew up 3 fully-turreted gunships and two bases. Later in the game, those bios gs were shooting stuff up all over the map, but none of it was particularly useful, meaning we bombed their sup and they wern't defending, and we won it as a result.
2) Good use. The gunship does have a lot of firepower, and they together with proxies kept a tac which was 2.4k from the enemy aleph, alive for about an hour and a half. Since tac was our main technology, if it wasn't for gunships all we would've had to defend with would've been scouts and basic figs (stealth fighters wouldn't have been able to kill everything in that distance).
In summary, gunships can be good but like every other ship, it has its strengths and weaknesses.
Also, I agree with Tigereye.

Some of us just think they are fun to hang around, like that pub on the corner, or the arcade down third street. Not good places to be, but fun none the less.

before the GS nerf, I piloted a GS with Aarmstrong and Strike as gunners, we managed to turn the game around, get about 50 kills to 0 ejects, stop MULITPLE RUNS, we capped a couple of their bases, but finally lost to a TP2 XRM2 run

As was proved yesterday, depending on your kb, a 30(ish) GT Adv fig with Zeus and Pulse lasers will literally rip a Belt's GS apart.

Hunter,
You're looking at it in the wrong way. First off, your initial claim is suspect. If you have everyone one 1 sector, hvy ints vs gunships, my money is going with the hvy ints. But let's put that aside for a sec.
If the entire enemy team is in one sector with gunships, I'm going to be doing an uneyed bomb run somewhere else, or going after miners, or flooding one aleph, killing campers, and sending in stealth bombers. Even with booster, gunships are kind of flat-footed. They take forever to rip anywhere, and they can't turn on a dime.
Now, they are good defensive craft because they can take out nans with ease, and that's really their point: Use them to hold off enemy runs until you get real tech up. If gunships are the linchpin of your strategy with no eye for adv tech, you're in real trouble though. A bomb run with 8 nans and 6 hvy ints clearing the way will bust most gs camps.

I hate buying gunships for my teams unless it is absolutely necessary. In most cases you have 3 pilots to one ship going around the map shooting at things just to rack up kills. Gunships destroy most team's teamwork. If they are used as defensive craft to hold down a single aleph they are quite useful since you can have all of the attention focused on one choke point and can direct an assload of firepower on that choke point.
In open space (without a choke point) a gunship is a sitting duck. Two hvy int pilots would take down a gunship without any trouble. A single hvy int pilot would stand a good chance of taking one down. An advanced stealth fighter vs a gunship... no contest. Gunship loses every time.
You are probably just going about it the wrong way Vipper. You can't take a gunship head on. You have to either lob missles at it or get another pilot and go after it with two interceptors. I generally would say other than a scout, a fighter is probably the hardest thing to take a gunship down in due to its weaker hull. Good turret gunners will take a fighter down before it can get into missle range. In groups of 3, fighters shouldn't have any problem taking down a gunship though.
