People swear a lot and every once in a while weed comes on and says "Hot $#@!ing damn I'm good! I got us a squad match!".
That is, from my perspective the leadership role in XT. We are quite happy being a anarchistic squad, no one really has to answer to anyone(though we are all so well behaved we wouldn't need to anyways), we have internal conflicts from time to time, but for the most part, we are all adults and can act like it when need be. Debates can be handled democraticaly, but recently, in terms of recruitment, if no one vocally objects to an individual there wont even be a vote for it.
You asked who makes the judgement calls, for us if XT went under a serious change it would likely be the strong core group of players who have helped build the squad into what the squad is now. I think if most of our inactives all of a sudden came back and started protesting a change that we made, possibly for the betterment of the squad, they would have little to no place in saying anything because they haven't been there the past few years, through the tough times, through the good times, and they just can't make that decision. The more time and effort that you put into improving a squad the more influence you should have over it and it's affairs(imo), whether your hardwork is rewarded by a leadership position or just respect from your squadmates.
That's one of the major things that bugged me about SRM undergoing this change, a lot of players I haven't seen for literally years now, aside from brief appearances on the forums, maybe the game, came out to shoot down the people who have been struggling for a coons age to get a decent squad going. I feel as though they had about as much to say about the whole thing as I, an observer(though some of them haven't even done that much), and that they had no place in shooting down publicly hard working individuals. I don't really mean to offend anyone here, it's just bugs me to see that.
Bottom line is that your squad is what you make it into, how you act like in game will represent the squad and attract players of that sort. If you recruit a slack jawed yokle, chances are there will be many more behind him because that's his crowd(one bad apple ruins the bunch).
Edit: A reply to Tiger's comment, the reason why XT survived the split was because we still had a very strong core group of players who were able to bear down and make the best of what happened. Once we got over the shock of so many players leaving, we took a look at the roster and realized that we weren't so badly off, still had members like weed, viru, duckus, noir and others, if anything the ACE split freed us from any inhebitions we had in the past.
