I guess I handled it a bit differently with SRM.

The SL did ask me to disband the squad, and so did other leadership. I encouraged them to find squadmates who want to keep the squad going, but if after 1 week nobody stepped up as a new comm, I would disband them.

And we know the rest of the story - SRM is still alive.

XT survived a split too when ACE was formed. Splits happen. Almost all splits I've seen have survived. It's mostly the "revival" squads that have a hard time sticking around.

XT is a mix between a direct democracy and an anarchy. When I heard that other squads had hierarchies, I was actually kind of surprised.

People swear a lot and every once in a while weed comes on and says "Hot $#@!ing damn I'm good! I got us a squad match!".

That is, from my perspective the leadership role in XT. We are quite happy being a anarchistic squad, no one really has to answer to anyone(though we are all so well behaved we wouldn't need to anyways), we have internal conflicts from time to time, but for the most part, we are all adults and can act like it when need be. Debates can be handled democraticaly, but recently, in terms of recruitment, if no one vocally objects to an individual there wont even be a vote for it.

You asked who makes the judgement calls, for us if XT went under a serious change it would likely be the strong core group of players who have helped build the squad into what the squad is now. I think if most of our inactives all of a sudden came back and started protesting a change that we made, possibly for the betterment of the squad, they would have little to no place in saying anything because they haven't been there the past few years, through the tough times, through the good times, and they just can't make that decision. The more time and effort that you put into improving a squad the more influence you should have over it and it's affairs(imo), whether your hardwork is rewarded by a leadership position or just respect from your squadmates.

That's one of the major things that bugged me about SRM undergoing this change, a lot of players I haven't seen for literally years now, aside from brief appearances on the forums, maybe the game, came out to shoot down the people who have been struggling for a coons age to get a decent squad going. I feel as though they had about as much to say about the whole thing as I, an observer(though some of them haven't even done that much), and that they had no place in shooting down publicly hard working individuals. I don't really mean to offend anyone here, it's just bugs me to see that.

Bottom line is that your squad is what you make it into, how you act like in game will represent the squad and attract players of that sort. If you recruit a slack jawed yokle, chances are there will be many more behind him because that's his crowd(one bad apple ruins the bunch).

Edit: A reply to Tiger's comment, the reason why XT survived the split was because we still had a very strong core group of players who were able to bear down and make the best of what happened. Once we got over the shock of so many players leaving, we took a look at the roster and realized that we weren't so badly off, still had members like weed, viru, duckus, noir and others, if anything the ACE split freed us from any inhebitions we had in the past.

Like I said - from an "Administrative Standpoint", the SL "Owns" the squad.

Orion's point is more a philosophical one. If PK were removed from the system, does the squad cease to exist? Only to the system.

Reminds me of a tree I once saw but didn't hear.

Here in SF we use the Tarot to guide our squad's destiny, or at least I do.

...And the bra on Joebud's av has Stainrat's av on it, I just noticed!

You are all wrong. Phrase controls all squads, by not joining them they continue to exist.

So, if a SqLeader goes berserk and want to destroy Squad X you would do that?

If I was the Most Important Admin™ I would visit the Squad X forum and demand to know what's going on. There are situations possible that the Squad Management want to terminate "their" Squad, but there might be members who want to continue. Or maybe elect new SqLeaders and continue. The Squad could be put on probation, to prove their "survivebility"

IMHO terminating a Squad would be the last option, like a hopeless situation, lack of active members, group violations of the ROC etc...

Pook wrote:QUOTE (Pook @ May 11 2007, 10:51 PM) Bottom line, the SL is the leader and he's the person "responsible" for the squad from an administrative standpoint.

So if Cable sent me an email that said "SysX is disbanding, remove all SysX tokens and tags and close the forums", I'd do it.
