That's what we have newbie servers for... so that you can get a feel for the game and the various ships, flight controls, etc., with opponents with similar skill levels. It's recommended that you play on the newbie servers to get a feel for this stuff, then head over to the main servers to truly learn the game. (You can learn bad habits if you spend too much time on the newbie servers.)

With the new release R4 you will be able to run a "real game" in singleplayer mode and train whatever you like.
But R4 is a bit delayed due to the lack of testing
