Steel Fury was the last squadron approved by Free Allegiance and that was just over a year ago. One of the main reasons we're still standing today is that we're not actually a "new squadron". Steel Fury was created during the beta days of Allegiance. It disbanded when Microsoft stopped supporting Allegiance. I reformed it as there was interest in starting a new squadron. We used our squadron's history and ideals to rebuild it. That made it a lot easier to recruit pilots.

Anyhow, coming from someone who has been playing Allegiance since the beginning, running a squadron can be very time consuming. Your best chance at success is to find a good core set of people who you can depend on. You will need a small group of veterans to help shape the squadron. A good squadron leader will always listen to his troops regardless if he or she don't share their opinion. Their unique insight brings a lot to the table.

However, be prepared for the long haul as this is not a short term commitment. It'll probably take a good year to be anywhere close to where you'd like to be. It took Steel Fury almost a full year before our teamwork and skill started to mesh together and improve. We've got a long way to go, but we're making progress. Don't set your expectations too high for the first year. It's going to be rough.

Don't let anyone get you down regarding your idea. Steel Fury had its own share of doubters, but we survived. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> My advice is to think long and hard about what you'd like to do. The choices you make over the next few weeks will determine if you get your squadron off the ground. Remember, it's not about having a forum or web site, but leadership skills. If you expect people to follow you, then you've got to be a leader.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

EDIT: Removed a repetitive sentence.

mastr, I just posted this over in the Site Feedback thread, but here's the gist again;

You don't have any vets yet. You should work on getting some vets who've been around for a couple of years, and a commander, before you worry about filling the rest of your roster. That's how RT did it, and SF is still feeling the lack of a commander I think.

/me thinks you wont be so excited to spend so much time on your squad after a month or so. Like Lyk also said, you don't even have one vet yet. I would go as far as saying you probably don't have a voob yet.
