I wasn't even really doing admin junk at the time, the Paypal thing was Spunky's baby.Raindog wrote:QUOTE (Raindog @ Nov 14 2006, 08:12 AM) I pretty sure that PayPal measure was some conspiracy cooked up by Paypal and Pook. I created my Paypal account just for that purpose and now use it all the time. Of course, it is a bit frustrating having to resend them all my financial and personal information every time they email me, man they must have terrible bookkeeping. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
On this day in Allegiance's history...

The source was released on Feb 5th. I remember clearly that it was Thursday.
Oh and I just checked what I wrote:
As disappointment ensued and jokes about stats being ready in two weeks (an old joke started when Your_Persona initially and repeatedly reported that he was two weeks away from cracking AZ before going MIA ) were spreading once more (they are mentioned every time the AZ is mentioned), the biggest, unhoped for dream of all seasoned Allegiance players came to truth, and this happened very quickly, taking everyone by surprise. This happened when Vlymoxyd, an Allegiance player, discussed casually with Solap, a game's producer and lead designer. Solap was wondering why he was having trouble posting on Alleg.net, he had something to announce. So Vly generously offered that he could post it for him. Solap thus proceeded to convey his message to Vly. He just wanted to say that the Alleg source code was now released. This was Thursday, February 5th, 2004.
So there's that answer...

PayPal was thought up by Spunkmeyer, who was co-adminning (is that a word? /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> ) at the time. I have no idea what became of those funds as it was not my account.Raindog wrote:QUOTE (Raindog @ Nov 14 2006, 09:12 AM) I pretty sure that PayPal measure was some conspiracy cooked up by Paypal and Pook. The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
