From what I can tell you CANNOT get your newbie number back.

You can get into cadet and thats it, really its all you should need.

The only thing that can be done to regain your newb# is unlinking your account from the vet's account you are linked with.

If you only have your callsign(s) and haven't played in a long time, your newbtag won't come back.

But if you are new and played on your vet friend's computer and assumed his rank, we can unlink you so you can get your true rank back.

I'm the vet I'm linked with /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. Not only had I not played in a long time, I hadn't played at all. Effectively, I got out of newbie mode by just waiting and not playing at all. You may or may not want to regard that as an issue (with the newbie system).

Funny enough, the very first thing I did on Allegiance was to play with the donations, but it was on a server with two people. (I took the general advice AND I was lucky enough to find an almost-empty server) This time around, though, I knew how to turn it back on (plus, I wouldn't go around pushing red buttons that obviously stop me from doing something positive in a team game) It was the absence of the newbie warning that made my demise...

Oh, and what I said about a negative aspect of a small community (single server and a ban makes you unable to play at all for a while).. I saw the positive counterpart in that as soon as I rejoined the game, I was greeted by some of the people here and was able to chat real-time about the issue.

P.S. I read through everything at the academy while trying to figure out what various buildings did.. Though it's a lot to take in all at once and I'm still a newbie.

Hey dude -- welcome to Allegiance. Academy is a great starting point. I would also HIGHLY recommend enrolling in the @cadet classes. It is an 8 week programs and it really gets you oriented in-game pretty quickly. Basically, if you have an hour or so to read up on vets giving you advice on gameplay, you will do well in cadet.

Each week, you get some reading assignments (academy stuff, veteran posts on gameplay tips, etc.). You also are instructed about how to fly different ships and then you go fly them in game.

It is fun and a great way to really learn the basic ins and outs of allegiance.

The 'having played on a vet's computer' is an argument that I have heard at close quaters. Some time ago, I used to share an account on my main alleg comp with MrGrenade. He was a newb, and remained as such for much of the time that he played on my PC. Due to linked accounts, he was considered by ASGS to be on my par.

During this period, I implored him to get his (#) tag back. He refused with aplomb. He was entering into situations he clearly couldn't handle on the vet server, and getting buggered for his efforts.

The result? He doesn't play anymore.

The moral of the story: If your account is linked, get it unlinked by an admin. It's far better that we kow your skill level than you be treated as if you're a vet. It won't be pretty.
