Smoking pot is legal in a few countries.
Why is the American concept of "smoking" even being considered since this game is played over the internet by people all over the world?
Some of the Americans need to get over themselves
It is true...
because the servers are hosted in the US, and the owner of the site lives in US and is under US law.Papsmear wrote:QUOTE (Papsmear @ Oct 19 2006, 09:22 AM) Smoking pot is legal in a few countries.

:. if we break us law (or talk about it), they can be sued / shut down

Saying "whoopdee-$#@!ing-do," isn't illegal either, but the VC still got a lawsuit threat sent to Thalgor from an angry parent. Though such a lawsuit would almost certainly be futile, the cost of defense is still significant.Your_Persona wrote:QUOTE (Your_Persona @ Oct 19 2006, 05:20 PM) I disagree completely /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" />
So... what gives? /excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":excl:" border="0" alt="excl.gif" /> What type of talking is illegal?
About that whole country thing /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
Example:
In the USA you can drive a car (with license of course) if you are 16. Right? It's all very legal, and fun. Cruising the streets...
So...
You're going to Holland, with your nice USA drivers license, and an IDL, and you want to drive a car here... That is not allowed because you are too young.
Conclusion:
You are bound to the laws of the country you're in.
/End discussion.

Just for a little clarification. When I went after the drug talk, it was because the majority of us here didn't want to see it. Never said illegal. If you look back at every single post I made, I never said illegal. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> A whole bunch of you did, arguing about it. I just said, stop the street/drug talk. Example was Kummy's little tirade, etc. It seems everyone wants to talk about their "legal rights", instead of abiding by the rights of the site owner. I.E., you abide by his wishes.

I agree with BV. We are guests in this house, we should treat it with respect.
You don't come to my house and talk sex or drugs with my 14 year old daughter, if you do, you get banned. As I tell my kids, "you have only the rights I give you when you live in my house." As I see it, the same goes for the house of freeallegiance.org or games hosted by individual owners. We have the rights they grant us.
You don't like the rules, politely ask to change them, if you don't like the answer, go live or play somewhere else.

Ok, I was under the impression this was a legal issue. I'm fine with them just not wanting that type of talk /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'm not Hamlet. I don't take part any more. My words have nothing to tell me anymore.

Wouldn't it be better to just ban the angry parent /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />Terralthra wrote:QUOTE (Terralthra @ Oct 19 2006, 06:09 AM) Saying "whoopdee-$#@!ing-do," isn't illegal either, but the VC still got a lawsuit threat sent to Thalgor from an angry parent. The problem with the 'house rules' business is this: You are NOT the owner of the house (neither is pook), you are ALSO a guest. That is, you do not own/run the game server that this chat is going on in. The chat is a direct communication between a remote client and a remote server over which you have zero authority over. Therefor it is up to aarmstrong/noir to enforce language on their servers, and up to them to delegate that power to you.
Let me put it this way. Pook/BV/etc own the road leading up to your house, and therefor they believe they have the power to regulate the way you speak inside your house.
