Your installation is obviously abnormal.
ASGSClient.exe and ASGSUpdate.exe have to be in the same folder as Allegiance.exe, right in the root of your allegiance installation.
If that's not the case, then the update is going to place the files in the wrong spot.
OK, pook . This is not the first time this happens to me and I solve this thing many time. This time it won't do it. I was just in game a couple of hours ago. left it idle so it sign me out. Try to log back in and it autoupdate. After that it just give me problem. Haven't touch anything else. So what gives.

bacillen wrote:QUOTE (bacillen @ Aug 2 2006, 12:26 AM) I was getting the same problem as you Merc, then noticed that the Allegiance.exe I needed appeared to be going to c:\program files\microsoft games\allegiance\ASGS for some reason. Once I copied that one into my root alleg dir there I got going again.
Exactly. If you've got a (really) old install with ASGS in it's own folder, or you moved it there yourself, ASGS won't be able to update correctly.
Yes I know it's a little goofy - I do plan on completely redoing the updater when I have time.

Pook, my auto-update hangs up at 1/7 every time and always has for some reason, that's why i've always needed to download asgs manually.

Merc,
Post here the paths / locations for the following files:
Allegiance.exe
ASGSClient.exe
ASGSUpdate.exe
for example, mine are at:
c:\program files\microsoft games\allegiance\allegiance.exe
c:\program files\microsoft games\allegiance\asgsclient.exe
c:\program files\microsoft games\allegiance\asgsupdate.exe

Para, file 1/7 is the asgsclient.exe itself. I don't know why it would hang, but if it won't download, try renaming ASGSClient.exe and then run the updater. It should download a new copy of ASGSClient.exe and then the other files right after.

My files are all in the same places as yours Pook... it just hangs up at "1/7 ASGSClient.exe" and eventually says "Unable to retrieve file... skipping" However, it never does anything beyond that.
p.s. even when renaming asgsclient.exe, the same problem/error occurs. That's why in the past i've always had to manually download the file.

Ok I give up.
Here's the latest ASGSClient and ASGSUpdate, as well as the R2 Builds of Allegiance.exe and AGC.dll
Put them all in your Allegiance directory and you should be good to go.

I went to the root dir of alleg and use the ASGSupdate instead from there and it worked. Activating from the GUI must have done some thing else. Anyway it worked for me now.

Your download worked Pook... I don't understand why I can't autoupdate either... maybe i'm the only one on the planet with that problem.

I couldn't autoupdate either, but manual update worked nice.
Thanks =)
