The moral of the story is: Don't try to dogfight anyone that isn't also a rookie. Having to waste time podding rookies that won't stop chasing me is annoying.
Some people might say it's not a waste of time to get more fuel and ammo from the recently exploded new player /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
Welcome to Allegiance!
Even as there are 3 good people for every asshat, the good people are a lot quieter so it'll be hard to notice at times.
And if you don't act annoyingly even most of the asshats answer your questions about the game. They, too, like people who want to learn the game and do it the right way. It saves them the frustration of seeing you do something wrong in the future.
@CDT is definitely the best thing to get to learn this game. You'll get to know the squad representatives and the instructors, who are some of the central characters in this community. You'll also get to know the new people in your cadet class. With the @CDT tag you'll suffer from the fat kid syndrome a lot less in picked games. Most of the squads allow you to join them if you wish to after you've graduated @CDT for a probationary 30 day period, which often ends up being for good anyway.
Shortly: The Cadet program is allaround goodness.
Hmm.. You might want to pick a few comms you always try to fly for to get started. It'll make them notice you and you'll learn faster as well since you get to know their command style, and they get to know your abilities and can give you fitting objectives. However, don't fly for a certain comm if his/her team already has a lot of new players compared to the other team. Team balance depends on everyone =)

And i gotha add that in cadets you get the opportunity to observe the squad games which are the biggest pool of knowlegde besides cadet program. You will meet the advisors - great dudes, and get immidiate dosage of /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":iluv:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> from your cadet group and the other one (there are always 2 cadet group at one time - they start on 2 week diferential and last 4 weeks)
great post and i'm looking forward in seeing you in the game

Make that: lasts 8 weeks, a new class starts each 4 weeks. So one class is half done when another class starts.

Welcome to Allegiance OlSheep /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Stick around and you'll discover the magic that has kept some of us here for 6 years and more /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":iluv:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />
I play in-game as ^ImmortalZ@PK. Feel free to hit me up if you want help or info. Also, as most of these guys are saying, join up with Cadet and you'll learn the ropes in 8 weeks.
Again, welcome /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The cadets are really worth it. I've got a lot of respect for them. It's not the only way to learn, but it's the best.
Also, don't be too scared to play on the vet servers. Just try to make sure you join the better team to balance things out. Another important thing is to try to lower the chances of you having a bad effect on your team. So just avoid taking a bomber or a troop transports.
The newbie server ,as others said, isn't good to learn what to do. Killing stuff and flying well aren't the most important skills in allegiance. The ability to know where you are needed is the most important thing you will have to learn. On the newbie server, almost everyone has no clue on how to play the game and you'll hardly ever see what happens in real games.
Some important stuff:
-When your team bombs, take a scout and mount a nanite gun. Shoot it at the bomber when it takes damage.
-F4 is your cargo. the "s" is what is "selected". press "s" to make the "s" move. Ctrl-s will make you drop the item(if you need space to pick up another).
ctrl-number will let you swap stuff from "mounted" to your cargo. If you have 2 different type of items that can be mounted in the same slot, it'll move them.
example: you have 2 type of missiles(#5): dumbfires and seekers. if you have dumbfire mounted and press ctrl-5, it'll remove the dumbfire and mount the seekers. if you press ctrl-5 again,it'll put the seekers in your cargo. If you press ctrl-5 again, you will mount the dumbfires.
Cargo is something that you should play with on the newbie server /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
-Signatures: the % thing that you see on your screen is your signature. the higher it is, the easier it is for the ennemy to see you. In many situations, you want it as low as possible. If you have a high signature, try to stay away from friendly stealth bombers.

Wow, these are some great replies/advices, thanks everyone! I won't answer each message individually (that would be a bit redundant) but I still appreciate how welcoming you've all been. So I guess my reply will contain mostly social stuff, I'll keep my questions for another time (i.e. after I've stopped reading and got to playing a bit more seriously).
Since it sounds so great, I've decided to send my application for @Cadet. The 4 weeks wait is kinda sad though, I should've joined earlier /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doh.gif" /> . Anyone knows if there's still a way to register for the session that began on july 29th *wink wink* ? If that's not a possibility, oh well, more time to practice I guess! As I was writing the last few sentences, I've received an e-mail telling me that I've been added to the cadet A session which is quite sweet /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />.

Hahaha, OK, that (and half of MrChaos' repy) definitely raised an eyebrow /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> .
MrChaos wrote:Im far from being a Canadian expert but I do live in a city north of Canada so well I just couldn't help noticing your avatar info. It's eh not heh /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Hmmm, true that... kind of a bad typo isn't it /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ? I don't want to be indiscreet but, out of curiosity, where do you live exactly? I thought that
The Motor City was Detroit (which, obviously, isn't north of Canada hehe).
I guess I'll answer my own question: I'm from Quebec and I see that Vlymoxyd is too. Hi there, fellow Quebecker!
Duckwarrior wrote:9. When you kill your first miner or constructor and people yell their congratulations, you will realise how smart you were not to quit after the first week.
Sounds neat, I really hope I'll see (hear?) this happen!
Thanks again for the warm welcome!
