Actually it would be a lot of fun to see this kind of advertising. Technically it is an external JavaScript
which will display advertisements which again do try to match perfectly to the content it could analyze.

I know another Board, same as here based upon "InvisionBoard", which does use this AdSense thingy from Google. The state this Board reached we do not want to have; i like to say. But i like to spread
the idea using Google AdSense here; for the fun of.

Beside our community will earn a little money.

Since when does supporter dollars have anything to do with servers?

As I understand it, the servers, and their subsequent internet connections (which have far more to do with lag than the hardware itself does) are all being graciously donated by people who are NOT Pook or Thalgor.

The only thing I could see supporter dollars doing would be paying obscene amounts of money for a dedicated webserver for the boards themselves. Google AdSense isn't likely to generate the several hundred dollars a month needed to rent a dual-proc xeon rack mount from a webhosting company. Especially not for years at a time and since it's not really needed for these boards.

Unless it was able to generate enough revenue to pay the monthly fee for a dedicated single-account T1 or T3 line to host game servers, it's a rather silly suggestion, I think.

Then again, don't rely on me, I could be completely off base, I'm just going with what I've heard on the subject, but based on what I've heard, the donator dollars go to pay for the webhosting and invision license alone.

Donations go towards the costs of both the board hosting AND the dedicated server which is the ASGS / AU / Lobby server.

Not to mention the server Thal donated to the FAZ effort.

So no, donations do not go to the cost of the game servers (at least not that I know of) but they go towards more than just forums.

I don't know what Thal does with the current system, but on the old forums, you could specify where you want your donation to go. All you had to do is add a comment into PayPal saying something along the lines of "I would like half to go to you and half to go to aarmstrong". If you didn't specify, it went towards what Pook mentioned above.

No difference. The only difference between the "new" system and the "old" system is that with the new system the board software automatically upgrades your member group, etc. Thal still does all of "what Thal does" with no magic involved. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
