You earned it, you protected your miners, you probed, you killed things. Blast the he'll out of the enemy with it. Game over. Sorry no 4 1/2 hour game. Let the nooby have fun with it.
Yes. This. This is what I want. I want games to end in a timely fashion because your payday will eventually buy you a piece of tech that lets you win.

Lead indicators are a special problem though.

I was talking with LANS about this and intend to test it at some point but I want to see exactly how allied craft "see" each other.

I also agree that there's a problem with newbies being forced to play with the vets, but shoving 2 newbies onto a newbie server seems like an even worse idea to me. I'd like to see some reasonable tutorials that describe the game and give newbies an idea of how good some of their opponents might be so they're emotionally prepared to NOT shoot at some random person in an int just in case that person happens to be able to swat them out of the sky like they're a drunk mosquito.

Why not? Balance only means playing for 60 minutes. How you get there doesn't matter.

Guys, I'd like to announce I'm working on a new core. It's gonna be called KeepingItRealCore™, and the first change I'm going to make is that bombers are going to be free but take 45 minutes to research.

Only if in that 45 mins miners cant mine in a contested sector (meeting cons)

Otherwise it needs to be called cashgrab core

What's wrong with mining a contested sector? That's fun. makes it trivially easy for both teams to do the bits of the game that are enjoyable.

Sometimes I wonder if we should try actual conquest on Brawl... except I don't think there'd be enough tech rocks. But a 6-rock, 2-of-each Brawl conquest with one "safe" rock for each side and a handful of "Contested' rocks in the middle of the sector could be really fun.

It would make the deathmatch model more interesting, could be a fun game type for smaller teams.
