I live in a paradise where everyone is white republican farmer/hunter type that keeps a shotgun at home and in their truck. One of the safest places in the world.
At the other end of the spectrum - liberal population centers full of minority gang violence. Remove those areas for statistical purposes and united states becomes safe beyond all reason - while still armed to the teeth with things that go bang. and no acid attacks.
Maybe we should ban minorities and the poor because there's a much larger correlation between those things and violence than there is between violence and firearms.
Pretty sure the same applies to Britain and their acid attacks.
However It would be nice if the FBI would do their job and actually block people from legally buying weapons over the counter if they are clearly high risk/violent/deranged/etc.
But moreover it's infinitely irresponsible, criminally negligent as far as I'm concerned that schools just put up a sign that says "gun free zone" and then call that a legitimately enforced gun free zone while doing basically to enforce that.
At my high school we have one fat rent-a-cop that probably couldn't sprint to respond to an active shooter situation without having a heart attack. But even if he could - the campus is wayyy too large for a single person to effectively do anything unless he happens to be in the right spot at the right time and remembers how to actually aim a pistol.
in other news, the US just had a mass shooting stopped by a hero with a gun. this happens more often than you'd think.
and there's something about a serial bomber going on
these don't get much media attention because they don't fit the agenda
FL School Shooting
In Australia, since our gun laws changed, we regularly have mass shootings planned and undertaken by disturbed individuals in their minds, because our gun laws dont allow them to occur, and therefore we have robbed potential hero's of the opportunity to step in and stop them.Sheriff Metz wrote:QUOTE (Sheriff Metz @ Apr 4 2018, 12:54 PM) in other news, the US just had a mass shooting stopped by a hero with a gun. this happens more often than you'd think.

Similarly, these unknown hero's don't get much media attention because they never get to step in and stop something that cant happen. Its a travesty.

Correct. But just like here, it will eventually taper off. Granted, it will take longer considering the saturation.
My son is about to apply for his minors firearms licence. Step 1 was to attend a 1 day safety course which we had to book 2 months in advance.
Next, he got his Safety certificate, which arrived a week after the course. Now we have to apply via weapons branch (State Police). Turnaround is about 10 weeks whcih includes background checks. That all is just from a class A & B licence which includes all rimfire and centrefore rifles manual loading with magazine capacity of no more that 6 rounds. (oh, and shotguns excluding pump action and self loading)
Category C and D (self loaders ) (and H for crossbows) is near enough to impossible for a non professional shooter to achieve.
Pistols - 6 months membership of a pistol club, then you need the president of the club and his committeee to endorse you....then apply the above process.
Its all pretty reasonable.

I'm fine with most of that. Mostly I'd like concealed carry to be illegal and everywhere be open carry. Technically my state is both an open carry and SHALL ISSUE -concealed permit - state (the sheriff's department of your county is required to issue you a permit to conceal as long as you don't have anything explicitly barring you from obtaining one) some states are MAY ISSUE (in which case it's at the sheriff's discretion). realistically in most places in the state if you open carry you're probably going to shot by the police.
There's a new sheriff in town.
