There are plenty of people in the United States who have extreme difficulties making ends meet. To say otherwise is ridiculous. The poor here may not be as destitute as the poor in other places, but it doesn't change the fact that they have inadequate shelter and inadequate food and inadequate access to healthcare.

Could you imagine if you went to the doctor's office with a broken bone and the doctor was like, "Oh, suck it up you wimp, some people have cancer."
