I picked up a Rift during this summer sale, and it has transformed gaming for me. Just out of pure curiosity, how difficult would it be to port Alleg to VR? I'm guessing since it's ancient this would be near impossible, but I really have no idea how all of that works.

3d is 3d so that part is "VR ready" ancient or not.

so it's not hard actually for just having the main 3d view displayed in VR.
The tracking would eventually require a bit of work.

The hard part is to have a 3d cockpit with 'look around', that's not mandatory but it will greatly enhance the immersion.
The UI and real VR controls are a pain to do too.

You can eventually try to experience Alleg in VR with a special gfx driver like with https://www.vorpx.com without modifying code.

As a VR expert I have to say no. It would be a massive undertaking.

I did suggest about five or six years ago the future of Alleg could be in porting it to a VR ready general purpose platform, but that is just a dream.
However, a suitable platform exists now. It's called High Fidelity.
But it's a dream, no more.
