I have never played a multiplayer game but briefly played a single player game on Steam.
Once Allegiance is on Steam and we are using their authentication system, I'll assume ACSS will not be used anymore.
I'm curious how enforcement, training, @Help, etc. will work.
With the possibility of a large influx of new players, I'm concerned about how we will manage that.
Does Steam give gaming communities the ability to police themselves?
Will there be @Alleg staff with the ability to remove AFK commanders or ban/boot disruptive players?
Will their be a way to identify @Help, @Cadets & training staff?
A few questions about Steam
What?! Don't you read the news?

Anyway, there is still the ability to do that directly via the game, like @alleg is ignoring server passwords/accept restrictions.

The history of open-source Allegiance is paved with the bodies of dead code branches, forum flame wars, and personal vendettas. But a community remains because people still love the game.
Steam is essentially just a delivery system. Yes, you can build out the ability to join steam friend's squad or w/e in game, but I've seen some games that still require authentication through a launcher, etc. Obv, that sort of tech can lead to people not wanting to play due to an additional step. I'm sure a happy medium will be found.

I imagine we will continue to maintain a similar account database/system like what we have now, just the method of getting accounts into the system will change. Just my initial thoughts on how this would work.
Are we going to maintain a branch that can be launched without steam? Or will it be steam only?

Hi Paps,
I'm intending on controlling this through steam groups. Each group have have multiple group leaders, and can invite people in and out of a group. Once we have our groups for admin and moderator, I will build integration into the server that will give you special slash commands (/kick, /ban, etc), that will give you some of the abilities that you currently have with ACSS. Longer term bans will be managed through Valve Anti-Cheat, but those bans can take some time to kick in. This is all new to me, and I haven't gotten into my steam dev account yet, it is still in process. I will let you guys know more as I find out about it.
It's really great to see everyone again, really excited about where we are heading!
Thanks,
-BT
