Is anybody actually playing Star Citicen?

Non-Allegiance related. High probability of spam. Pruned regularly.

Elite's flight model has nothing half arsed btw. The fligt model is really well tuned, and was the design goal from the start. Yhe result is a much higher skill ceiling, where you actually have to plan ahead, not just spin your guns towards the enemy. It's fully 6DoF too, where SC still doesn't allow reverse thrust in all modes.

The comment about gimbals is not true for Elite. You don't control them directly with a mouse, they track a locked target with imperfect automated tracking.
You always point your guns towards the enemy, its how space sims are played. I really dont think elite has a higher skill ceiling as there is no gravity to generate energy fighting. Instead best case, the changes they have made to attempt to emulate world war II and have people "get on their six" result in people fighting the flight model to attempt to do what is simple in the other space sims, fly backwards and strafe.

Last time I played cobras were 100% broken and winning any fight was a matter of flying backwards and shooting the other guy, funny, just like allegiance , starcitizen and descent.

i dunno about any of you, but space sims have just as much energy management going on as real world flight sims. It's applied differently, but the same concept comes into play: You have more energy, you can dictate the engagement.

Yup. Good ones do, definitely.

hehehe sorry, sunrodent talking about piloting a space sim.... not even i would read that, i've never been much of a pilot, nor have i tried to say i was, so i don't.

There are lots of guys here who know all about the mechanics etc... that's why i liked being a part of it.

Star Citizen is beautiful. i fly with a 3D pro Logitech right hand G13 Logitech left hand. Don't have much to say about key bindings etc until game is finished. Looks good so far, can finally fly like in allegiance.
is that 6df?
Sorry Dave, i'm wrong a lot, just my impression with his presentation maybe, like all those people who voted for Kennedy because Nixon was sweating, we didn't even know he wasn't a crook.

Game Play, i keep looking forward to seeing the guys from here in SC, so cool.

and ya, Dad died, gave the money to S.E.N.S. and a little to Chris to make his game. i would never spend that much on a game, never have. hehe Dad did.

Come on, have you seen the first person shooter demo? will it be like that with battles on a carrier etc... with ships and all.... that's a game guys.

i'm not in an org or anything not much of a joiner, besides games not made yet. if i do need help out there would call on any of you guys any day.

Necro posting because I think things have come a long way with Star Citizen since this was last discussed. I think things are coming along, pretty well paced considering the highly ambitious goals CIG has set. I am teetering on dropping some coin on a ship. Just wondering if anyone else is looking to play. It looks like high quality teamplay will be even more possible in SC perhaps, than in alleg, albeit at a different pace sometimes. One thing that interests me is the variability of pace, from hard on fights like we all love, to cruising and exploring, with real time risks. And of course new tactics, with ship boarding, electronic warfare...and all the regular shoot -em -up. Bombers and interceptors, stealth ships...

I'll never stop wanting to play alleg, but this might be the next great step that Elite definitely isn't turning into for me.

I would love for alleg pilots to form a fleet someday, but it's probably a year or more until the persistent universe fire up, although some elements are getting close, and the squadron 42 space warfare module is one of them...which for those who are wondering, will not require purchasing of ships beforehand.

To all those who think it's pay to win. The backers are paying for the developers, some of them outrageously, but if that's what it takes to make an outrageously good game, power to them. The vast majority of players, nearly a million accounts atm although obviously many multis, are buying starter ships I suspect, and the ships all have factory gear. Nobody is getting any great kit, they will still have to earn in-game. And if someone with deep pockets doesn't buy some flagship for me to hook up with, then hth will I get to get on one, or join its fleet?

I want to form an exploring fleet centered around an endeavour and carrack, and fly outrigger.

Is anybody here in the 2.0a PTU build?

A years worth of campaigning on the forum has paid off some, and the flight model finally has some depth. Sadly the Interactive Mode mouse shooter gameplay is still there (pilot aimed gimbals, ship turns towards the gun reticle like in Freelancer) and they just added the same rubbish for joystick and gamepad.

If the pilot aimed gimbals eventually get removed, this may actually turn out to be a fine game.

I would say yes. I've had a lot of fun with E:D and the CQC deathmatch combat is as close to Allegiance deathmatch as you'll find anywhere.

Be aware that for that price you don't get the next major expansion which will allow you to land on planets, that'll cost you extra.
