If you believe the internet, if you straight up bet, no points and no odds, it would be like taking candy from a baby. You would need to pick at least 12 winners to just beat the always pick the favorite strategy... historically and it is the internet

On the other hand, if we can believe the internet, the spread influences outcomes in 2 out of 16 games i.e. the points made a difference.

Of the 65 in the football pool I am in, this past week 3 of them got 10 picks right.
Myself and 6 others got 9 picks correct.

+ Ravens (Not going anywhere in that division without Big Ben)
+ Jets (Goodbye Mr. Philbin, sadly your team might get better which sucks for the Bills)
- Raiders (I can't believe they couldn't beat the lowly Bears)
+ Bengals (Dalton for MVP? Lol)
- Bills (My favorite team and they couldn't win on home turf?) F@ckers
+ Panthers (No surprise here)
+ Jaguars (Even though the Jags suck it was a division game so I didn't figure the Colts would cover the spread)
+ Falcons (Such a good defense sadly no quarterback)
+ Redskins (Ha ha Philly - Chip Kelly will be on thin ice if he can't turn this team around after remaking his roster and dumping so much talent)
- Chargers (won the game but couldn't cover the spread)
+ Packers (Man the 9ers looked awful and Kapernick's number were horrendous)
- Broncos (Wade Phillips defensive genius - still perplexed why the Bills fired him as head coach after a winning season and a deep run into the playoffs)
- Cardinals (The Rams defense is unbelievable - I still thought the Cards would win this one)
+ Saints (Cowboys suck without Romo & Dez)
- Seahawks (Although they won the game from a bad call by the referees somehow I think Broodwich was responsible)
