Maybe look for another product if you want your favorite "naked girls" or "torrent" website information private.

Their AV is @#(! anyway. Way to commit marketing suicide.

I find it hard to say which 'protection' is best. For me it varies from year to year. Some engines might have an excellent record one year, and a poor one next year. It might even vary from month to month.

For me Malwarebytes is one of the best. They have proven to me year after year they detect and remove the most annoying malware. You have to pay for the real-time protection premium option, but even the free version is awesome. MB also has an enthusiastic hunter forum group.

I'm not really interested in those 'protect all' products, they tend to slow down the computer.

The default AV in Windows (Security Essentials, Defender) seems to miss too much threats.

Almost every decent computer magazine has it's own AV test / compare article, and there are commercial test comapnies too.For the free real-time AV's it usually boils down to Avira, Avast (or the China based 360). Depending on your personal taste (like how much pop ups you can stomach) you can have a fairly decent protection.

Some people go hardcore, they remove every AV and have faith in their own skills to avoid potential mishap. Some people use Sandboxie to run their browser, a few mouseclicks and all(?) installed mishap is gone.

I've been running AV free (w/ malwarebytes) on my main computer for a couple years now. I have not run into a single issue.

I don't torrent as much as I used to, and if I do it's from trusted sources.

I'd definitely recommend trying without, worse case scenario you just reinstall Windows and start over.

My 2 cents? I am not too happy running two real time av's at the same time. It might that they "bite" each other when a virus is detected.

I have stuck to the free version of Avast for the last ~2 years and haven't had issues. I torrent frequently and have never run into virus problems.

I will have to look into MB.
