Do you think it would be possible to have MS move the license to another MS license? Specifically the MS-PL license: http://opensource.org/licenses/MS-PL
I think that if MS had been on board with the open source movement then, like it is today, MS-PL would have been the license that Allegiance would have gone out under. My gut says chances are that MSR-SSLA was selected was because it was both in play inside MSR and was the closest thing to open source licensing available at the time to use with minimal effort. (Actually, you're probably one of the few people who could confirm that one!
Thanks again for checking up on us, it's a great morale booster to have you stop by!
Also: 7 kids??
Thanks,

Hey Backtrack. Yeah. 7. Crazy.
They will want to know why you want the license changed. I don't understand that myself. I'm happy to have a phone call with whomever is in charge of the project.

Maybe we can do conference call. I know castho has some good headway and knowledge on this stuff. pkk would be a given to be there. Kage appears to as well but is less involved. backtrak would be good to hear from too, and tigereye and paps too.
Solap are you available anytime this Saturday to meet on mumble with some of these knowledgeable parties?

I believe the issue is not purely with MS (I will be repeating a lot of what was already said)
To publish on Steam we have to satisfy Stream requirements, which means that we have to be owners or representatives of the software. Therefore my observations :
1) Point 5 in MS license states that effectively MS owns all rights to code and data (models) used in allegiance. The ownership is not exclusive, but it does mean that MS is able to grant us the right to use ALL of the allegiance as-is in its current state. (especially the "transfer" part). Therefore we do not need/have to speak with anyone else but MS.
2) Steam requires the submitter to be either the copyright owner or have the permission to publish (can't find the exact line sating this atm)
3) The MS license will make it difficult for us to integrate with Steam, so we won't be able to have the additional in-game features Steam tends to provide with SDK.
Hence, considering the above all we need is:
1) Talk to Steam on the exact requirements to publish allegiance (what document does MS have to provide "to Steam" so we can publish it ourselves)
2) Talk to MS after knowing what do we exactly need for Steam. It may just be that we need a fax of a document giving us the permission, much easier than asking MS for copyright transfer.
Solap, check your PMs, I sent you some quick background there.

i just played 6 games and the game itself is still quite fun. however, i can tell for a new player the steep learning curve is definitely a problem. also, having terrible pre-determined key mappings is making the game extremely difficult to play.
probably have to fix some of the small things (like the key mappings) first to make sure everyone is having a good time on their first game.
getting more people is possible through facebook marketing. funny, but social media marketing is much more effective than setting up a booth at a convention. possible also to pay for google ads as well. with an influx of people that way then lots of newbies will come through the door.
however, the main vibe i got from playing alleg a few years back and something i am getting a little now is that its like a very small community. because its so small and the people know each other for a long time, its hard for anyone to break in to the community. thus, newer players get alienated and even if they really enjoy the game, they don't have the opportunities to enjoy the game the way that they want.

Good feedback this.

Not really. You're reading the same crap that's been posted for over 5 years now.
The game is $hlT. Those hosting this game are $hit. Those "developing" this game are $hit. You are seeing the results of their work and you're looking for solutions as to why it isn't working. It's broken beyond repair and you and what's left of the rest of this community, lack the skills to even detect the bugs and hacks that screwed this game over.
The game is DEAD. Let me rephrase that,....THE GAME IS D.E.A.D.
deal with it and uninstall like everyone else did.
