Recent conversation with TE is below:

----------------------------------------

Hi TE,

There has been a recent push to retain players and market the game to attract new players.
Many active members feel that one of the biggest downfalls is the outdated look of FAO.
We need a fresh look of FAO and pkk has either been too busy or unresponsive/negative to the idea of updating the website.
I feel that to move forward we need more active website administrator to make the site better.
With that in mind I would be interested in taking over ownership of FAO and have been looking at taking over the financial burden of the site from you as well. pkk looks after the day to day running of the site and I still want him to continue in that role but we need a co-admin to update the site itself. I have been talking with AEM and think he would be a good fit to update FAO but we can't do anything with pkk in charge.

MrChaos has proposed a face to face meeting with any interested stake holders. Is this something that you would be interested in or available to do?
Since you and I are both in Toronto it would probably be the best location to arrange a meeting.

Have a look at the following topic: http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...showtopic=71135

So my questions to you are:
Would you be willing to give up ownership of FAO?
What if anything would you want in the way of compensation?
What would you need from me to make this happen?
If agreeable how soon could we make this happen?
Since I am not a website guy what so ever, what in the way of certificates and such is required to own a website?

Regards
Paps

---------------------------------------------------

Hey Paps,

I don't really "own" FAO anymore.

I do own the domain names alleg.net freeallegiance.org and freeallegiance.com

And I do own a server that hosts a beta lobby (formerly the ACSS server) and development, and have access to the forum server that my friends host on their box.
Anyways.

I'm willing to transfer domains to someone responsible enough to keep allegiance alive.
The only reason I haven't done that is because frankly I've been out of the loop so long I no longer know who has allegiance's best interests at heart.

I've already told PKK that the beta lobby and dev servers will need to be taken offline at the end of this month so he's in the process of moving those to someone
else's boxes.

I don't want money for the domains or to transfer anything.
I just want the knowledge that allegiance is being kept alive by the next guy - the same wishes Thalgor had when he gave them to me.

I agree about meeting in person. Let's do it this month.

It'll have to be before next Tuesday because I'm flying to London.
When I return I have a week before I leave again for New York.
Work has me busy these days.

You up for a lunch or for after-work beers this week?

----------------------------------------------------

Hi TE,

Thanks for getting back to me as quickly as you have.
Work keeps me very busy as well and the last 7 years I have mostly been working on the road.
Currently working in Saskatoon full time on a large construction project and will be unable to meet in the near future.
I most likely won't be back in the Toronto area for 2 to 3 months but can update you at a later date.

What I am trying to get accomplished is to get the website graphics updated and as previously mentioned PKK is either too busy and/or unresponsive to the idea.
Shall I assume that PKK now "owns" (has overall administration control) of the FAO?

I would be happy to take over ownership of the domains as I want the game to continue just like you do but if having the domains doesn't allow the website to get
updated it seems making that move would be a waste of time for both of us.

Since I am not a computer guy at all. I don't understand how any of the techie stuff works. I'm just hoping to keep the game and the community going.

I would appreciate any suggestions you might have as a way to move forward.

Thanks again for your continued support Allegiance!

Regards
Paps

On a side note there has been preliminary discussions with MS to try and either get the license released to the community or the license modified so that we can get
Allegiance posted on Desura and possibly Steam. We have had positive feedback from Desura and a lukewarm response from Steam both companies require a
change to how the MS license reads.

---------------------------------------

Yes PKK has full access to everything with only one exception: he does not own the domains.
He is the one who will need to update website graphics and make upgrades to the forum.
While he can point freeallegiance.org to any server he wants, as the owner of the domains I can override him at any time to put things back to the way they
should be.

Running Allegiance unfortunately requires a non-trivial amount of technical knowledge in addition to the time required to carry out the necessary changes.

If PKK doesn’t have the time to act as an admin anymore (like what happened with myself and Pook before him) then I recommend a new technical administrator
be named to fulfil the position.

Ping me when you’re in town and we’ll grab a beer regardless,

Look if no one wants to step up for the boring day-to-day admin work I am willing to assist. PKK or whomever can do the interesting work like porting, elite SQL, DNS blah blah.

I am happy to do the backup work, store them here in Holland. Perhaps some minor forum work like purging, database optimization, creating / deleting forums etc. Monitoring performance etc.

Geez. There are tons of people in ServerOp forum. No one wants to assist?

Pkk, when can you build & push to AU the latest (and hopefully last for r8) updates?
Can it happen before we move the svn?

Do you want me to provide the binaries (will require msvc2013 runtimes (msvc120))?

I don't recall agreeing to provide artwork for Thal. I'm really not a graphic design person, just another person who sucks at photoshop like Bacon described.

If I have time I'd be happy to help out, but would need to know actually what he needs. I don't have much in the way of time though, I still owe blacksun a banner and I agreed to do that like a month and a half ago.

Trustworthy = peet

Whether as my squadie or as an administrator of the Solap server I have always known him to be completely honest, level headed, a nice $#@!ing person. He is MrChaos approved no matter where I'm wearing said pants

Paps thanks

Many people here have been asking to make over this website for years, doesn't look like anything much has changed.
AEM's website has more appeal than this site.

Oh Sorry paps, but so far I know, pkk has been very receptive with most of the community wishes. And so far, everything that depends of him, not counting the AU update :P hgas been done faster than any time I can remember.

Probably there was just a lot talking about changing the website, but little work done?

As spawnie said, if we wanted to remake the website as a whole, why not just do first do it, then upload it and kick pkk in the nutts for doing it even faster? Or at least have something done before pkk start handing over access to things...
