Following the Scotland election, I had to smile when seeing this youtube video:

I think breaking away would be a disaster for both countries.

I am surprised that they did not find an old parchment scroll dated eons ago, when both parties agreed never to split. That usually seems to happen between kingdoms frequently in war before.

The way things are going, I expect we'll have Scotland in the EU and the rest of UK outside it by 2020.

the act of union 1707 actually states:

QUOTE THAT the two Kingdoms of Scotland and England shall upon the first day of May next ensuing the date hereof, and for ever after, be united into One Kingdom by the Name of GREAT BRITAIN; And that the Ensigns Armorial of the said United Kingdom be such as Her Majesty shall appoint,, and the Crosses of St Andrew and St George be conjoined, in such manner as Her Majesty shall think fit, and used in all Flags, Banners, Standards and Ensigns, both at Sea and Land.[/quote]

probably - the only way that independence could even possibly work is for them to go into the EU, adopt the euro and go along with ever closer union.

of course, what this means for "independence" should be obvious.

So, if Her Majesty The Queen waves with this parchment deed, how can Scotland separate from Great Britain?

England allowed the vote, essentially nullifying the clause.

Basically Britain still remembers that time they told the colonies they couldn't leave. In the long term it worked out for both groups and now we're besties, but the UK would still rather not have a bloody nose again. Especially while Russia's pretending they're France.

The separation bill will be automatically declared void. Therefor Scotland can not separate. Right?

Article XXV:

THAT all Laws and Statutes in either Kingdom, to far as they are contrary to, or inconsistent with the Terms of these Articles, or any of them, shall, from and after the Union cease and become void and shall be so declared to be, by the respective Parliaments of the said Kingdoms.

The document itself. To my surprise the clerk touches this antique and irreplaceable scroll with her hands.
