My two cents:

1. We do have to interfere in every civil war not only because of commercial interests (cruel but inevitable) but also because of safety. Unstable (read "un-american") governments and regimes can obtain nukes and threaten everyone, thus its better to nip it in the bud.

2. Regarding the french (which was kind of random), I remind everyone of Napoleon. A man who, according to Hugo, "embarrassed God". Also, the French did help the U.S maintain naval equivalency against the British during the revolution.

3. As for Qaddafi, I agree with most posters that replacing a rock with a boulder doesn't do much good for anyone.

4. I also think Obama made a huge mistake in bringing home the troops too early from Iraq (even as he was advised not to do so by Petraeus and other experts). The current situation in Iraq can attest to this. Of course, he made campaign promises and I can at least respect that he kept them (somewhat), but with the way things are going, years of fighting and american lives may have all been for naught. (That's not to say we should've gone to Iraq in the first place, but thats a another story)

5. Foreign policy is always motivated personal interest, every philanthropic act is an illusion (e.g supplies to Ukraine from Russia), however much good it does, it must above all things do US good (and by US I mean United States)

6. Bide your time for commercial space-flight and fly to troubles we know not of.
Sing O! Muse, the incompetence of shihab, that brought countless ills upon his teammates. Many a brave bomb run, it sent hurrying to pods; many a con did it leave prey to enemy int whores, for so were the councils of his commanders ignored, that the moment he entered in his ship, he flew circles...

1. Libya was no where close to getting nuclear weapons, of any real commercial interest to the US, and Libya HAD a stable government. All is still true but the last, now they have essentially no government
2. France is a traditional ally of ours and why I used traditional ally. As for the revolutonary war that debt has been paid and paid again... see WWI and WWII
3. Everyone else was "yea ding dong the wicked witch is dead" and WWII arguing. A stone wasn't replaced with a boulder but a stone with a vacuum and you can see the result.
4. It was ten years not ten seconds like Libya. The Iraqis wanted the US to go and Obama had a promise to keep. No one who should have gave a $#@! about Libya did once Qaddafi died.
5. Neither Libya or Ukraine mean much to the US directly and by US I mean the US, if it was not for the EU and I mean the EU having completely $#@!ed up their baby steps moves at being a world power.
6. I would love to fly in space but not because of some delusions regarding humans suddenly would not keep being humans or everything will suddenly being sushshine, lollipops, and rainbows

again with respect of course

Germ

In this case the necro poster, while a :blah: is not known for necro posting, and was using it to make a point. While it violates the spirit of the internet which measures things in days and well on its way to going to hours... the internet can go $#@! itself

edit:
