So suppose I'm a scout nanning my bomber and our whole group gets whored. Now suppose I am able to slip away and there are 4-5 pods in the area. What is the best and quickest way to pick up pods?
I could go on chat and tell them to come to me, but that is not an order (I don't think they can hit "accept" and go on autopilot to me). I don't want to fly back into that hornets nest and get podded myself. I could go
to command view F3 and order them to me (they could then accept that order and come to me). I could toggle virtual joystick and use my mouse to visually click on them, but then how could I order them to come to me that way without going to F3?
I want a way to command them so they can autopilot to me, and I would like to do it without going to command view. I would like to be able to toggle off virtual joystick, select the ship and command them to me without F3. Is this possible? I'ts been
so long since I've played.

So what would Any of you suggest as the best way to pick up pods? :P

Use the voicechat "I gotcha, hold still! (come to me)"

If they click accept, they will auto-pilot to you.

Also when doing this, if you're in a scout, consider moving far away and dropping your shields/missiles to reduce your sig.

Be wary of anybody following a pod, as they'll chase it up to find you, and can use it's trajectory to get a good indication of where you are.

If you notice this, change your location laterally.

See here.

Also, the quick chat is 'cs. It gives orders to the selected pilots which they can accept.

What I use to deactivate virtual joy stick is the game state button (default G). Not only does it disable the mouse it also provides some info on tech base %. Then you can click and drag a box to select all the pods you are facing and then use whatever vc you have mapped to the I gotcha.

Once you've lost eye a good idea is to head to the nearest home alleph as pods will head there naturaly anways.

Thanks all! I really need to start playing. I had forgotten some of the voice chats are commands. I thought they were just broadcasts. Thanks all. Shiz, I like your idea...forgot about the game state button, btw..nice to see you are still here!

As a pod, pay attention to suspicious eye far from base - let your pickup know you are probably being followed, and divert from the rest of the pods.

Code: Select all

Let's talk about the flip side. When you're in a pod, pay $#@!ing attention! Answer questions about which aleph your pod is going to and respond to pilots trying to rescue in the middle of a furball.

If you're eyed, don't fly straight at rescue probes, fly at a nearby aleph if the heading is similar.

The first thing you should do when podded.
Stop. stop moving.

If, for instance, you're in a bomber that gets blown up, if you hold still, the last of your nans can pick you up.
I cannot count the number of times that pods have neatly avoided my last ditched effort, before my being podded by a crowd of defenders.

So first Stop.
Then F3 to see the overview and the minimap, because maybe just maybe, AP>B isn't the best path to take. Or there is a teammate uneyed in the sector.
Being podded isn't a timeout for you to get cake, or a beer or to take a leak, so don't treat it as such.

What Caj and bable said, is very on, DON'T come to a teammate dragging a EYE with you. I have, by following pods found; rps, sf, sbs, unshielded scouts, low hull ints etc.

Dont forget uneyed teleport bases. Those only have 50% signature and a hidden teleport can be extremely useful, and having a pod of all things give one away is very dumb. (generally only teleports outside the center of a sector can stay uneyed and you should avoid leading enemies to those. Same goes for ripping to them in high signature ships. You will know what i mean when you see one)
Still ready to teach anyone who asks nicely whatever they want to know about playing alleg. Contrary to popular opinion I do not eat newbies. Voobs taste much better.
