Paid advertising will bring "traffic", that will not be a problem. The questions that should be asked are:
Behavior of those who visit freeallegiance.org through the ad: How many leave the site immediately? How many stay on the site a little and what actions are they taking on the site? (This is mainly an indication of how well the website is doing to provide information and convince potential players to download the game.)How many players download the game that came from the Facebook ad?How many players who download the game from the Facebook ad create an account and login? How many of those who create an account end up playing a game online? How many of those who play online stick around for at least a few days / weeks? How many of those who become a long term member of the community?
Is data being collected to answer these questions? My guess is no, probably all we will know is if there is an increase in downloads since the ad has been running and any information obtained on the forums on in game from those who say they found the game through the ad. But hopefully there is actually decent web statistics software running on the server that can answer at least the first 2 questions AND someone with access will take the time to study the data.
Questions 3-6, in addition to accurate web traffic statistics being collected, would most likely require someone with access to manually investigate. Given the relatively small influx of players this will provide it probably wouldn't be much work.

Missed yall!

Since Friday the banner has been put in the timeline of 27,000 active FBers and we have 65 website clicks.
I'm thinking about putting up FB banners that hype specific game times, like we do already on FAO. More thoughts later.
None of these points matter in the least. The reason being is that there is nothing you can do with the information once you have it.\AEM wrote:QUOTE (AEM @ Apr 27 2014, 05:37 AM) Paid advertising will bring "traffic", that will not be a problem. The questions that should be asked are:

The game in its current state is simply unmarketable. It is bug riddled, unplayable by so many, lacks community, players and support. Fix the game...provide proper support / development and THEN market it. You're going about this all wrong as KAGE has pointed out so many many MANY times!
[15:25] <BBT_> oh, so da vinci's mona lisa isn't his work?
[15:25] <+fuh-zz> No, he simply put effort into it.
[15:25] <BBT_> are you really that retarded?

Of course they matter when people are contributing money towards advertising. Its probably true that there is nothing almost all of us can do with the information other than decide if we keep advertising or not, but those are the questions that should be answered. I personally believe it is too late for paid advertising to help, but if you have extra money and really want to try to bring in new players there aren't many other options (unless you are able to write code). While there are a few different development projects going on I would not expect any game saving updates anytime in the near future. Alleg really needs to be remade to be saved.jbansk wrote:QUOTE (jbansk @ Apr 29 2014, 05:00 PM) None of these points matter in the least. Community funded paid advertisement has been brought up several times over the years but has always been halted by the admission that Allegiance wasn't ready [to maximize player retention results]. There is no denying that we face significant challenges in growing our game, in some cases now more than ever. It will take concerted effort from this community to make new players see past Allegiance's faults and instead recognize the potential for exciting and unique game play experiences.
