Allegiance Wars

1v1v1v1 Free for all!!

Feb 9th, 3pm EST

Map Description and Rules:

• Each Fleet will have only one garrison, located in the inner colored sector
• The outer sector is an Oort cloud sector

• Oort clouds contain 7 helium asteroids (460 He) located in increasing distances from entry aleph
o The furthest He rock in the sector is ~17k from the aleph
• There are no buildable asteroids in the Oort cloud
• All Oort clouds are accessible by two enemy fleets, through 2 fairly distant alephs from their homes
• Oort clouds contain friendly "Oort beacons" that have 2k scan range and no other function

• Home (garrison) sectors contain a large rock representing each team's planet
• Home sectors contain 1 60 He unit Helium rock and 1 universal tech rock (can build any techbase on it)

• Middle sector contains a fairly dense field of rocks
o AI ships will have difficulty navigating through it, but might still be able to make it through

• All other sectors are normal
• IC is forbidden (Venus can use IC on a different day)

To Fleet Commanders :

The idea behind the map is in the team's choice of techpath.
Oort cloud brings diminishing returns, but is equivalent to ~ 2 sectors worth of money (at 1.0 money). Hence you would want to shut down your opponent's mining in the Oort sector, as expansion simply does not have the range to do it, tac turns out to be the better answer.
Alternatively you could go for a power play and try to out-tech your opponent's by capturing resources in the middle sectors, and while that does offer more money, the expense of securing these sectors should off-set the advantage slightly. (in this case expansion offers the best choice)
Supremacy provides you flexibility to do both, where carriers enable you to reach into Oort, while fighters can defend your frontlines.

Asteroid field (middle sector), while seems to be a "short cut" is not really one in this case. AI ships will slow down heavily trying to navigate through rocks, and player dogfights will be interesting to watch :) (does not contain any buildable rocks)

Overall faction-choice wise, my humble recommendations :
Bios - if you play as one, make sure you are able to defend your miners/tech. Oort cloud is the best option, but I would expect any other sane commander to team up and eliminate Bios first hand (as it is quite frankly the stronger choice on this map)
Giga - A good early Si spec as a home rip, as long as your immediate tech rock is well positioned, you have a good chance to hold out until the spec pays for itself. Additional miner capacity might make Oort mining more efficient.
Belters - Very strong Tac opening will likely shut down Oort mining, and early bombers can offer you the time to mine yourself. OH/Phoenix will prove to be difficult to handle
Draconium - OK all-round choice. Nothing spectacular and each option has its merits. Not likely to have strong opening
OH - Very strong expansion (which you can immediately partial) possible follow up with a tac for sbs. Primary focus on getting those middle sectors and ignoring Oort.
Phoenix - Strong choice with some sauce in the late game, as the map has enough money to let phoenix afford most of the fancy tech.

P.S. Oort clouds contain 7 He rocks, not 8 (the rock that is furthest away has 120 He units, total 480 He units :P )
P.P.S Phantom032 Made core for the event and helped to test the map. Map should be available on the server as soon as pkk uploads it, so it would be possible to check it out beforehand.

There is only 2 changes compared to PCore004 for the special event core:

- Sector boundary: instead of sector boundary being at 5k above/below plane it is now at 10k.
- New (unbuildable) station: Oort Beacon. Like Dome said, it has 2k scanrange and no other function. Shield takes 13-14 ab1s (without kb) to take down, hull 1. Shield recharges over 10 minutes. Both shield and hull are the techbase variant, so they are ungalvable.

->Aside from htts/sbs being able to sneak a little bit better above/below plane gameplay is unchanged.
Still ready to teach anyone who asks nicely whatever they want to know about playing alleg. Contrary to popular opinion I do not eat newbies. Voobs taste much better.
