WAR THUNDAH
Its not that its broken in arcade, its that its broken in the whole game. I didnt mind flying with the mouse people most the time because they're all noobs (although getting killed from 1km away was getting fairly old), but when your controls dont work, everything you do is frustrating. I was really hoping it would succeed but its been made pretty clear the devs dont care about the tiny market for js fliers so they can have it. It probably will do just fine, its just another game I don't care about.
There are a few new things coming up, IL2 Clod has for the past year been under development of a group of modders who have done amazing work in all departments, including graphics improvement and optimization as well as redoing all the flight and damage modelling to be historically accurate (look for Team Fusion mod http://vimeo.com/77082835)
DCS:WW2 is coming out with alpha access soon, which is like super detailed sim, so maybe not what you are looking for but thats what I'm really looking forward to (kickstarted it meself for 50$)
IL2:Battle of Stalingrad is also coming out, using the Rise of Flight engine which has numerous issues and quite a lot of people in the know are very skeptical about it, but it is another offering.
So i guess the answer is, no, not really
But people seem to forget there is quite a good sized population who fly the IL2 games in the arcade mode settings and still have fun with it. Just because there is the all the detail and difficulty out there doesnt mean everyone uses it. I mean, just look at Warthunder.

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye

I'm sorry to hear this. It means that Warthunder is exactly the same as World of Warplanes... way too focused on catering to the casual mousers. <bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH
<bp|> or an obsessive compulsive paladin of law like Adept
I played some RBs last night and watched my Ki-43 controlled by joy get run rings around by a Spitfires, while a teammate was able to match the stupid mouse manouvers in his Ki-43 without stalls or lost control.
The another game I got sniped at 950m flying slow pitching turns by a P-40 (level 1 plane fgs)...got the @#(!s and waited 13 mins for a Simulation battle.
I got 3 player kills in a He-112-B-0...a Hurricane, 2x P40's using deflection shooting at a target obscured by my nose each time. I killed the Hurricane and P40's by matching diving manoever and nailing them when they tried the same stall turns that $#@! me over in RB's.
the reason this worked is because without mouse control, these guys lose control as well as speed. Do that in Sim, and you are dead.
And although I don't have track IR, numpad view control is fine. its actually easiest to just fly circle and look over your head for the block dots, then engage...rather than hunting the entire sky.
As Djole said, Simulation is the way to go...and for me from now on.
The good thing about getting the @#(!s as a JS pilot in a Mouse game, is made me get back into Lock On FC2 which has been neglected for too long.

Simulation rotated factions last night. It's now Brits, yanks and japs.
Brood come back in just for the fun of flying an a5m4 and loop and kill spitfires.
So far w/l ratio is 3 to 1 , k/d is 6:1. god it's fun baiting players into dogfights. No tip stalls...perfect for joystick control. And carrier landings are very tough but extremely satisfying.
