I'm sure the server code isn't great, but it shouldn't make a big difference running it on a non-oversold VM node in a data center with great global connectivity compared to dedicated. I do appreciate any feedback though and I am sure I have been away from Allegiance longer than you and also don't see myself returning anytime soon (as far as playing, still around on the forums). It may be the case that the server doesn't run period due to being poorly written with old technology and there is no point trying to find a lower latency server. CSS ping seemed good to me when I checked it out today, but maybe spikes and packet loss I hear about are more code related. Obviously if we were talking about modern, resource intensive game servers a dedicated becomes more necessary. Allegiance server was originally written to run on ancient hardware and a modern VM should do just as well as dedicated.

The only reasons I would try to help out if the servers here are not great are 1) Love the game even if I no longer have time to play 2) Have already been doing a ton of testing recently for low latency game servers for the only game I play anymore so have a good idea what to look for... and matches last only 7-15 minutes in the game I do play which makes it much easier to fit in when I am so busy IRL. 3) Already have someone who has stepped up to possibly fund the server

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye

Wine? Doubt it will be very stable. Could try I suppose, but not very familiar with Wine and may be difficult for me to accomplish over SSH terminal. Would be awesome if I could run it on Linux though with no negative performance impact.
