The fairs are themed around the area of the world people immigrated to the US, along with your choice in music, even one based on sexual preferences. So whether it was the Irish, Greek, or techno it is pretty much a carnival with changing music, costumes, and food depending on the week you attend. One of them is the Arab-American festival which was cancelled because of protestors showing up during the event. It was a decision based on the reactions of the fair goers to the protestors, who were doing it in a legal manner. A Florida pastor burned a Quran on a BBQ several miles away but book burning is not a crime at this time.

Ah, my old faux pas, commenting on how American Irish are "more Irish" than th ones we get here in Europe, and so forth
Honestly, my friend, I'd love to see some of these parties. Maybe come see the descendants of the expat Finns and such. It sounds like a lot of good hearted fun.
<bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH <bp|> or an obsessive compulsive paladin of law like Adept

it was actually the Italians but who remembers these things I'll invite you over my childhood friend's house. Finnish and Italian all mixed together in one big head scratching good time. Although tbt the Finnish pride side is up in the UP of Michigan in the old mining area with the eye-tal-yon rooted quite strongly in the Detroit side
Come on Adept we are long past me being offended by that kind of stuff from each other
It seems there has been such examples of hatespeech on Facebook in the UK against muslims now that there have been arrests made... and some people are crying about free speech, and how the muslims are getting treated better than "regular people"

Same thing has happened in 'murica. It sounds prejudiced, but this is a land of immigration for over 200 years. And no other ethnicity has caused this kind of ruckus. 99 per cent are fine. It's the 1 % that are lunatic murderers.

Assuming I'm not making this up... The legislation was passed to make Incitement to Racial Hatred illegal (be that written, spoken or whatever). The decision was then taken to classify Muslim as a race for the purposes of that law. Whether or not you think that the law is a good idea it's sensible that it is applied in all media.
The trouble is that in spoken word it's obvious what's intended to be a joke and what isn't, in text and particularly internet media it's much harder which can lead to unfortunate overzealousness on the part of the police.
Spidey: Can't think of a reason I'd need to know anything
