also a note to those considering donating blood today/in the next few days
it only has a shelf life of 42 days. after 9/11, there were so many people that donated that there was a surplus and a lot of it expired on the shelves because it never got used. also, if donate *right now* you will not be eligible to donate again for 8 weeks - a couple months after 9/11, there was a shortage because so many people were ineligible to donate again for several weeks
consider delaying your donation by a week or two to insure a steady flow of blood that will allow blood banks to replenish their inventory; most blood banks in the united states are part of an emergency sharing system and will be shipping ready to transfuse products to Boston if/as they are needed.
i'd also recommend contacting your local donation centers before you rush off to donate to make sure that they actually have need and your donation won't be wasted

The Red Cross in Eastern Massachusetts tweets: "Due to the generosity of our donors we don't need blood at this time. Please schedule for a future donation."NightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Apr 15 2013, 11:33 PM) also a note to those considering donating blood today/in the next few days

Odd how there were so few fatalities. It looks like the bombs were mostly bang, not big boom and not packed with shrapnel.
Watch the runner in red in the middle next to the one in black: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22160826
He's got a sparse wall of people between him and the blast, they get missed by the shrapnel but he gets hit. Unlucky.
I think this is more about scaring people than killing them. They were smart enough to pull off multiple coordinated blasts, but didn't think to pack their bombs with nails / ball bearings? Wouldn't domestic bombers who watch action movies know to do that if you want to kill people?
[edit] News says that they were in bins and packed with ball bearings. 5 suspected devices, but they might not have actually been bombs. They interviewed a doctor, he said the worst injuries were lower extremities, and they're saying they have enough blood right now, but people should consider it in the future days/weeks. I thought it looked like the explosion was near the top of the bin and surrounding shrapnel like benches were lower it so would get pushed downwards. [/edit]
Watch out for reactionary laws or patriot act 2.0.
