Seems I've had some sort of difficulty getting the Free Allegiance installed.
After some time, found that there was a utility called ASGS that is used 'instead' of the normal 'launcher.exe'? Have tried it, used it to "update/repair" FA and it sends the files to the drives root directory instead of the install directory. Have Uninstalled and Reinstalled without problem. Can start the Allegiance.exe manually, have unblocked its activity via Firewalls, etc. Can play the Training missions via the direct allegiance.exe files... both Production and the Beta.
An oddity though, beyond what I've mentioned... is that ASGS will create OLDER VERSION allegiance.exe files when it does its 'update/repair' function, even though it does place them in the root directory on the drive.
ASGS states that it cannot confirm the security of the Allegiance install and that it is not installed correctly. Dunno why, each time I uninstalled/reboot/install there is no error in the process. When I start with the launcher.exe it does its updates 3 times in a row before finally starting up without errors, merely cannot connect to any server. Firewalls are set to OFF to determine if that is the difficulty. Something is wrong with ASGS finding OLDER versions of Allegiance.exe files. IMO. It is stepping them down from something like .10644 to .10400. Why? Anyyways, I'm too tired to continue. Hope someone has an idea.
Windows XP SP3
ThreatFire, Win-Firewall, Norton
i7, 6GB RAM
.NET 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 +SP1, 4.0
C-Runtimes installed fine also.
PS. I have created shortcuts noting to ASGS that its home directory is where it resides. Have tried ASGS from both the main Allegiance install directory and also from the Beta and Production directories as well. Trying many different combinations of it's location to resolve this. Outcomes are all the same. Have tried to push the 'updated (although downgraded versions) of the allegiance.exe file into the proper Beta or Production folders and retried this many times. Have also moved the other updated files to the Artwork directory. AND, I do not have the allegiance.pdb (SP???) file at all. Cannot find that zipfile that is mentioned in pkk's other posts to help other people with install problems. It no longer exists.
[allegiance.pdb-is missing!]
Problems with ASGS & ACSS... EXE path not registered in Registry, etc.
You should be able to download the ACSS installer from this link: Click here
We do not use ASGS anymore.
/Could someone PLEASE change the info reflected on the download page so all of the newer people that we are getting
from the software sites aren't confused?

Thank you!
Is this the 'fix' for what I've described? Including the ACSS (standard .exe setup installation) not working? Or, is this a normal addon to the standard install process?
EDIT!: I have these files already. And, they do not work. =\

What I do not see is ACSS client/// etc.
It simply is not a text statement on this DL page to indicate it is/is not ACSS. If it is the main installer... that one does not work for me. Cannot connect to server over 2 days now.
Thank you.

launcher.exe is ACSS.
What is not working? What happens when you click on play online? Did you already create your callsign/account?

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.
Hello,
Please try the following:
Uninstall all free allegiance items from add/remove programs
Run the full installer, ensure that you have downloaded the latest version from http://getsetup.alleg.net/
Next, icons should appear for allegiance on your desktop, use those to launch allegiance. If launcher still does not work after all the updates are applied, post back and let us know.

Okay, this has been done repeatedly. The point of failure with the main launcher is it cannot connect to the server.
Because it could not connect to the server I researched the forums and found out about ASGS and thought that was the proper way to go.
However, the main (not ASGS) launcher.exe method from the main install fails to allow the 'play offline' / training mode to work at all. It simply just fails to start correctly, errors out that there was some problem with it.
There appears to not be an error with the C runtime install. No error with the .NET 2./3/3.5/3.5 SP1 Framework either.
Can start the training by going to the allegiance.exe file directly though. However, of course that fails to connect to the server online because the UserID and Password have not been passed to it from the launcher.exe process, since launcher.exe was not started, to test bypassing it.

The offline not working thing may be a bug, I just had the same thing happen.
However, what do you mean by "The point of failure with the main launcher is it cannot connect to the server. " ? Can you describe step by step exactlky what happens when you click on Play Online?

I simply click "Login" with my correct username/password combo, and it replies within 15-30 seconds: "Failed to contact server, please try again later."
Just that simple.
Once again, on reinstall have opened the Firewall to the new proggies. Also, still cannot do the 'offline' mode via the launcher.exe method.
Hope that helps.
Do you get that error at step seven (see below)?iPPCs wrote:QUOTE (iPPCs @ Nov 27 2012, 08:35 AM) I simply click "Login" with my correct username/password combo, and it replies within 15-30 seconds: "Failed to contact server, please try again later."
QUOTE What Should Happen
This is a step-by-step listing of what should be happening when you try to play Allegiance. You can use these step numbers to indicate where a problem occurs in the posting template found below this list.]

I think so, because you use Norton:
