Why do Israelis think they should keep the land in the West Bank they captured in 1967?

having been around people forever, i don't think it's as simple as that - even if israel went "here's your land we're sorry we'll leave you alone now" it's not enough, because people like to be vindictive and will continue to lash out at israel in a childish manner until the day they die, because once you're utterly consumed by the desire for vengeance, it's all you really have, and vengeance spawns vengeance

heavy-handed retaliations cause collateral damage that kill people who weren't even involved in the first place, which spawns more hurt and anger, and the cycle continues on and on perpetually with no end

A.Because there are people living on those lands there.
B.Because our men died for this land and $#@! yeah we've the right to keep it.
C.Because this land full of hills is very important for our defense.

Ya i think you are right, but we cant look at REAL peace as a short term option, you are right its just not going to happen even if Israel conceded to every demand the palestinians had. It has to be thought of as a long-term plan. Relations wont change overnight but i think with some real honest effort on the part of the Israelis AND the Palestinians and we can see some progress.

I dont know what to do about the 2 competing palestinian governments though. Obviously Hamas needs to go and Abbas's government should take control of Gaza. Hamas's stated goal is the destruction of Israel and for obvious reasons that isnt helping negotiations. (not to mention the rocket attacks)

Another thing maybe is give Gaza back to Egypt?
