So I recently wrote an article about my views on what a gamer is. I would really like to hear your views on the topic as well.
The link for the article is What is a Gamer.
Thank you.
What is a Gamer?
I am a Gamer. I build my own custom PC's and I own multiple generations of consoles. I beat games but I usually never go for the perfect completion. I look for new things, new ideas, new takes, new ways of playing, I play for the novelty and the challenge. I enjoy games like Dwarf Fortress and Kerbal Space Program, but I still enjoy the social aspect of games like BattleField and Allegiance, but will only play them if I have friends online to play with.
I pick games that have a good solid single player, present an interesting challenge, or something that I can play with my friends. My total play time is limited so I am looking for the maximum gaming bang for my buck.
I love the classics and enjoying picking up an old game for nostalgia as much as grabbing a new release hot off the shelf.
I rarely attend a midnight release, I usually do not pick up games at launch, but I maintain a decent library and usually make it around to the more popular titles.
I love indie games, especially games where the engine allows for creativity (Minecraft, DF, KSP)
I hate games that require you to sink tons of time to do anything, especially if you HAVE to sink time into it to get anywhere, League Of Legends is probably the farthest down that road I have ever gone, and it is on the limit of the skill/ time/ money scale for me. anything on the other side of the line I won't touch.

You missed following classes:
-"hategamer". Somebody who hates a game but spends most time in the fan-forums of said game stating his opinion.
-"ACLU hategamer" see #1 claims the freedom of speech.
-"pinguin hategamer" see #1 + claims linux is the reason he does not play.
-"icky hategamer" see #1 + blames the core.

Psychosis I would really love it if you could post that as a comment on the article itself. Just the kind of stuff I've been looking for. And I would like to hear what you consider yourself to be or if you disagree with my 3 types of gamers presentedPsychosis wrote:QUOTE (Psychosis @ Sep 11 2012, 04:23 AM) I am a Gamer. So its useless then? We call ourselves gamers but there's no point? Are we just like a bunch of people going to a sermon because the preacher is popular and not because there's any value in the sermon itself?qqqqqq wrote:QUOTE (qqqqqq @ Sep 11 2012, 06:30 AM) Since gaming is now ohsogodamnpopular
theres no meaning to the term "gamer"
