Yep. Unfortunately it kinda sucks, but commanders can boot for almost any reason. Bored's right when he says 90%+ of boots are actually initiated by the user being booted anyways.

If you move a comm's con, he may boot you. If you sarcastically say "Someone shoot the commander" after he does something you deem "dumb", he may boot you.

The Rules of Conduct only forbit booting in few circumstances:Booting a (4) or lower who was not actively working against his team or otherwise disrupting the entire teamBooting someone in retaliation for a boot they received earlier in that play session/dayBooting multiple people from your team in order to increase the chances of a #resign to passThese are the only real "bad" reasons to boot. But that being said, commanders *SHOULD* have some valid gameplay reason to boot the user before they do.

Perhaps that user sent a miner/con/carrier/drone to their death by ordering them?
Perhaps that user defied the commander's orders to defend which led to the death of a station?
Perhaps that user's chat is demoralizing his team?
Perhaps that user is trying to incite a mutiny? Even just by discrediting the comm?

All are gameplay reasons.

Luckily it's very easy to come back. You can have 3 callsigns at a time, and can change those 3 callsigns about twice a year whenever Pook resets the callsign links. This last happened about a month and a half ago, so it likely won't happen until the end of this year or early next year.

Enjoy,

its easier to say it to the team, instead of figuring out who is caperble of doing that order.

its your job to know which orders are for you - i.e. if you can do them

in your example if you are camping, stay camping until you know the bomber is gone or you get a command to leave or rush
if you are in base and noone is defendnig the con, and you can transfer to the con sector / rip to it, go defend the con, if con has enough D (situation dependant) then go camp the aleph, if both look fine and you know where an enemy miner / con is going, yo can go kill that (provided your good enough and there is a level of D you can handle on it)

I personally have gotten booted a lot.. And lot of the early boots I thought were unjustified. I have relaxed and now understand why was booted, but it really did nothing for my self-esteem or my view of the community beck then.

A couple of points.

1) Getting booted sucks. Period. Nothing, really, to make you feel better.
2) Commanders can boot, basically, whenever they feel like it. Look for commanders you like to fly with and who don't boot you.
3) When you are booted ... rejoin under a different callsign and joing the other team.
The first time you setup the second callsign, especially as a new player, it is a pain. Once you have it you can just jump in and keep playing and it takes like 1 minute.

As a general peice of advice. I would *strongly* encourage you and your friend to join @Cadet if you haven't already. You will meet a bunch of other players and feel like part of the community. Then when you are booted it is once jerk rather than feeling like the whole community is against you.

Watch out though, getting booted and then joining the other team can get you booted from the other team.
made me laugh, made me cry, made me bitch at people to probe.

...only if you were originally booted for cheating by relaying info to the enemy.

I do whatever the commander says normally, even if i know hes a hopeless com. In the vain hope that his "plan" will actually work and we will win. I've never been booted yet...but I guess it will happen at some point...Also try not to fly for hopeless commanders or ones with huge egos. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I have been booted and usually the offending commander regretted it. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
