EDIT: you know what, scratch that. I have something better to say than the dribble I was spewing a moment ago.

Question: Do we have any kind of ordered player-getting program? Any people in the community that handle enlarging the player base on a consistent basis? Any kind of organisation tool for making a successful effort in this field with "tickets", "goals" and "tasks"?

I´d like to post a reflection based on recent events.

This weekend was a slow weekend in alleg (with acss and soccer). So, when I entered Main, I found just 4 pilots in the lobby. After a 10 minute discussion on everybody not wanting to command, I took one of the teams (after warning everybody I didn´t know how to command) and we launched. Fwiffo commanded the other team, so the outcome of the game could be easily predicted.

Tactically, the game was horrible. Being first time I commanded, I screwed up on all possible ways, even with Fwiffo trying to help me. But at least the game was moving: the game grew to a 4v4 or something similar, the other team started experimenting with rescue drones and PT Bombers, we were just making a last stand on our final 2 sectors (with Expansion) and blowing up incoming runs. Game was lost, but it sure beat playing Minesweeper, and I could have easily continued for another 20 minutes just fooling around.

At a certain moment somebody in my team proposed resigning, so I thought "Well, maybe finally somebody will command, and we can get a real game going" (I bet we all thought the same). So, the resign passed with everybody´s approval (4 votes, including me).

After that, we discussed about the mistakes in the lobby for 5 minutes, but nobody stepped up to command. And 5 minutes later, everybody had left...

So my reflection is the following: don´t go happily around proposing to resign, unless you are sure you can get another game going, or are actually willing to command the next game. If you don´t like the game, nobody forces you to stay. But a bad game is better than no game at all. :)

I tried playing tonight after having not played in over 2 years. I saw Fwiffo who I used to play with pretty regularly. Really had no idea what I was doing since it had been so long. I was in a corvette and our SY got capped during the time I thought to look for miners. Didn't remember the ripcord time being so long : (

In any case Fwiffo flips out at me in chat. I was apparently ignoring DIRECT COMMANDS! Well guess what? I'm trying to have "fun" playing a "game" ... I havent played in years and I did something really dumb...so lets yell and scream and throw a hissy fit. This is the reason why this game sucks and people don't play. I will probably uninstall and not come back. And its not Fwiffo's fault. This game has no steep learning curve its a god damn cliff. You're either an expert or you do something to lose the game for your team. And of course the people who know better think its OBVIOUS and they get frustrated. What a dumb concept. Oh well I had fun for like 20 minutes. Maybe i'll check back in a couple years when I forget why I stopped playing to begin with.

I was on the other team. It was 4v5 and there was no reason for anyone to get worked up to the point they drive a player way. Come back, keep playing, relearn, have fun.
