PENNY ARCADE NEWBIES!
I tell my friends who try allegiance to check the controls and grab a fighter or an int. Miner defence in a combat ship is great practice, and fun!Shizoku wrote:QUOTE (Shizoku @ Mar 4 2012, 08:25 PM) Yes scouts are an easy way to make new players more useful, but they are also not the most entertaining ships to fly.
Not that theres anything wrong with starting with scouting if that is what you want....

They should really just fly whatever they want. The only reason you could possibly want them scouting is because you know how newbies tend to burst through an aleph and spoil an uneyed bomb run all the $#@!in time.
I mean, you really have to be a masochist to enjoy flying the scout. You're pretty much just gonna get bared down on and shot up the ass by anything with boosters

Beware newbs. This community is not as friendly as it seems. People will boot you for no reason and they will boot anyone who are newbs. This has been happening for years and will still happen today.
I loose my motivation to help out more and more each day to drama like this. Which is why I am mostly /meh on this point. I will continue to play as I always have, with the morals I have been rasied with and if this community finds they don't like myself and others like me who just enjoy playing the game with their friends on TS or squadies, then they can ban us and my Warhammer account, Girlfriend, and IRL activities will get a lot more attention and will thank them.

Probably most newbies will go straight to the game after registering their ASGS user (which is independent of the forum user). Maybe a few will skim through the open wiki, but I doubt they will take the time to register in the forum and find this post. At least till they test-play a few games (and by that time it will be too late).
If you want this to be seen by "Penny Arcade Newbies", I would recommend showing it at the main forum page (which doesn´t require registering).

I remember being a newbie once... Interceptor was how I really learned to fight (back in beta). Being restricted to guns and boosters is a great way to learn the basics of the game the hard way... putting missiles (i.e. fig) in noob hands makes things too easy for them, IMO.

the problem is that only clueless dumbasses that aren't paying attention ever suck proxHeyoka wrote:QUOTE (Heyoka @ Mar 4 2012, 03:59 PM) Don, if you're getting shot "up the ass" in a scout then I should turn you onto this great new feature called Prox. It's all the rave.
here's the ways to avoid prox.
1. intercept by flying perpendicular to the scout.
2. stay 200m away from the scout's ion trail.
3. get close enough that the prox has no time to activate.
4. `ia
I've used it with mixed results. The clued pilots expect it and steer clear of it, and the voobs that are totally oblivious and fly in an extremely predictable path suck it - but usually only if I drop it before I've been eyed.
