Proposed Change in our Sportsmanship
the way i perceived his post it was something more along the lines of, "any other voob would've resigned there". and in fairness a squad like NI most likely would've resigned right there

edit: If you couldn't figure out, this was to help player retention since most people "cba to play" because they "take too long to start" and "last forever" and sure, spidey might not want them sort of people to play but...

Remember, what I say is IMO always. If I say that something sucks, it actually means "I think it sucks" OK?

? so you're saying that since they're too lazy to think of a plan they should be allowed to quit? if anything that'd make me want to go to SG's less since we'd we have pre mature resigns left and right

Resigning during squadgames was always allowed...
And it will always be considered as uncool (by me).
Only reason to resign would be the other team's com fufi-ing the settings.
In pug I post resign if i am angry with the attitude of my team or if my team got horribly stacked.

Indeed. Even after losing our exp, as Bios, with everything bought, because $#@! partialling I always say, it's the only way to keep Turkey from whining about stalled tech, we were well on our way to victory, except that by some miracle our home sup died, followed by our home garrison, so we lost, but only on the technicality that teleports don't count as a victory condition. A mere fluke and one which will not be repeated.Elzam V. Branstein wrote:QUOTE (Elzam V. Branstein @ Jan 30 2012, 12:06 PM) That's why we lost last SG.
Never surrender. It's not manly to surrender. It's not even manly to draw. Fight to the bitter end!

I've seen many games where a good portion of the team just sits in base until it is over as an alternative to resigning. It's a boring waste of time. As insect pointed out it is a slippery slope - from total lost cause resigns to whimsical bad start resigns. I would like to imagine that resigns would only be used to end the complete lost cause games but I know this will not happen. I see nothing wrong with resigning a waste of time game to have another match. First game goes to score for tourney, second for fun.

I just think people should play more PUGs in general, too. The whole "PUGs are too bad for me" no longer cuts it. If you don't play PUGs (specifically for this reason, I understand some don't have time), you are killing the game. There really shouldn't be such a large division between SGs and PUGs -- the only difference is you're playing with certain people.

I have never understood the idea that you should wait around to get whored on if you're losing. Now, in sports, professional teams always play to the end. Alleg traditions probably came from that. But you know what? Alleg is NOT a sport. Critically, there is no time limit. You can wait for two hours to lose if the other team won't finish it. Worse still, you don't even have a fair chance to get points back because your opponent has better tech. The penalty of resigning is just that: you LOSE. Why should there be any other reason not to resign? So the good squads get to whore around while waiting for drydock? In games where resigning doesn't matter, which is ANY friendly game, squad or not, you can always play again. Why should any team be forced to play in an unfun position when they could be having a fun and close game instead?
The people that play to win? The squads that will not stop until they are the best? Those are not the majority of alleg. Those of us that just want to have fun should be allowed to play as a team too. These resigning rules just prevent that. If you want to improve the play of alleg, strict rules about who gets to play won't help. Instead of driving people off, open the door to casual play. Make games shorter. Maybe put the time limit on as the default. Heck, play XC. If you don't have to be on for over an hour just to be sure of finishing a game, more people will play.

Or a quick win and allow a double match and you can laugh at them for losing in 9 minutes?vogue wrote:QUOTE (vogue @ Jan 30 2012, 09:46 PM) ? so you're saying that since they're too lazy to think of a plan they should be allowed to quit? if anything that'd make me want to go to SG's less since we'd we have pre mature resigns left and right

In sport you're always able to win, always.Nightflame wrote:QUOTE (Nightflame @ Jan 30 2012, 10:04 PM) I have never understood the idea that you should wait around to get whored on if you're losing. But if you're down 9 goals to 0 by 80 mins you know your team will just pass the ball around trying to stem the loss since the score matters.
In alleg you can whore for points and there isn't a time limit nor a score limit which means it can just drag and drag...
