Hi, I'm in charge of the new portal skin and I could use some testers to spot bugs and things to improve.

So, go to http://forums.freeallegiance.org/, make an account, look around, post stuff and report back. Don't forget to tell me your OS and browser version.

Known stuff:
* Online Users isn't hooked yet to the game accounts.
* Chat room is down ( http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/3...mit-is-reached/ )
* No rounded corners or CSS gradients in Internet Explorer (I will add gradients for IE at the end, since it requires creating an image).

It's got a lot more vibrancy now!

I noticed that if you search for new items, and there are no new items, the links at the bottom blend into the background, specifically, the "Mark Board As Read" link.

Edit: The recaptcha logo looks blacked out on FF 3.x on the user sign up screen.

Edit2: I never got a confirmation mail from it.

looks very pretty

First impressions
Not sure I like the model renders overlaid on the A images though like
I do like the more subtle stars though

but plain is fine

Not sure I like the "Recent Topics Added" box open by default (haven't registered yet so I don't know if it will remember I don't like it there) or in it's current position, but it is cool that it closes and the stuff to the left grows (smoothly too! :D )

I wonder if the complete earth should be visible in the gaps where you can see to the background, rather than just having it stop at the bar above the bread crumbs.

Using chrome 11.0.696.77, win 7 pro 64bit.

So far so good, Firefox 4.0.1 Windows XP.

The "middle" posts in a topic seem rather "bland" compared the the rest of the page. I would like to see at least minimal zebra striping or something like it. Also, it seems to me that the bottom bar of a post being used for ~2 buttons is a waste of space. Maybe some admins etc get more but unless you make everyone and admin I don't care :P .

I'm impressed that some people have the patience to skin that IP.Board POS (Probably the worst piece of software ever written)

gl man.

On W7SP1-64bit with Chrome 13 (dev), the login doesn't work (got the orange message saying successfull than a redirect but then still not logged in). Should be a Chrome 13 issue i guess. works fine with FF4 and Chrome Canary 14.

Login does work on my Android tablet (ASUS transformer, Android 3.1) but the site is set to the mobile skin by default (a tablet should not be seen as a phone there well a 'big' tablet at least). Could be an 'agent' issue ? Tried with integrated Android browser and Dolphin HD too. The site looks fine like on a PC with both these browsers once you change the skin (which needs to be done everytime since it's not remembered too).

Can't test much since we can't post or reply.

visuals:

- looks 'old' like current site but that's more an IP.Board issue I guess.
- header is way too tall (eat up too much space at the top). Use http://browsersize.googlelabs.com/ and paste your site url in there can help to 'size' stuff.
- legend icons are too similar one from another. even more for color blind people.

features:

I see no new worthy features so I wonder what's the point? did you start this on your own or after a design discussion with the community ?! (noting personal here, just to know how things work at FAO these days).

Most of the new features are administrative I think, TB had been pushing for an upgrade for years.

Really? You think it's worse than vBulletin?

i have some issues in the new forum.
- The forum doesn't show me as logged in , even after i log in.
- Every time i want to post something i get an "error" that the admin wants me to enter my username and a capcha code to post my message. that's really annoying. Why do i have to do that every time for every post? or at least get the verification code on the first page when i'm writing the message, so i do not have to press post and then to be redirected on the verification page.

The forum looks very nice :)

@KGJV TE had an install of the new IPBoard version and asked me to make an Allegiance skin, that's all.

Some login problems seem to go away after clearing the cache. I don't know about the missing confirmation emails ATM. (I'm not working on the backend, just the skin.) I've validated the accounts manually.

I don't like portal CMSs either; this is the first time I touch IPBoard, so I've just punched the default skin in the face until it turned the right color. I haven't put much time in the artwork.

The header has the same height as the current forum, but I want to compact some unused space too.
