Ok so a friend of mine is looking to build a new machine, I am so out of touch with this @#(! I thought I would fire it at our wonderful and much more "intheknow" community.

Budget: $2000 or under - preferably as far under as possible
Needs to last a while.

His Wants/needs:

Video capture using a HD PVR
Video Editing & Rendering
Large storage space
Adobe Photoshop 7
ULEAD media studio Pro 8
More than likely Win7 64 & large Ram
Monitor
Keyboard
Decent cooling system

And anything else you guys think of ;)

Thanks in advance

Core i5/7 Sandy Bridge (2xxx chip).

Lotsa ram.

Big HDD.

Graphics card - Probably Nvidia, mid range may well do the job.

Nope, that would be a daft thing to do for what this chap wants. A RAID 1 array on the other hand may not be a bad idea.

Be careful where you get your Sandy Bridge from.

Get 8gb of ram, a SSD just for Windows and crap, and a RAID5 array for everything else

Thanks for the info guys!

Perhaps I worded it wrong, I am looking for more specific builds. I used to build PCs for my job when I was quite a bit younger and still build my own rigs now. However I havent gotten a new rig in a couple of years now so I am stuck as to what brands, parts go well together....

I am assuming WD are still great HDDs?
Corsair DDr3 RAM still a good choice?
The i7 does look pretty hawt so I think that will be the one, cheers.
Whats a decent fan system nowadays? Noise and power.

Anyhow I think you get the idea :)
