I have owned 2 Grand Cherokees and 1 Cherokee 4x4. the 4.0 Engine is awesome and very reliable. Not sure about the v8's
Trannys have issues. Thats the only concern I see.
My sister owns a 04 and had the tranny done last year.
All I can say is at least your not looking at a rice burner. Buy AMERICAN!!(even if its made in Canada or Mexico its still a US company:)
And FU if you dont like my views

put that sucker in 4 low and it will climb a tree, put mud/snow tires on it and you are good for nearly all weather conditions. I find it is also an ideal platform for towing an 8x10 trailer, a boat, or jetski's.
fuel mileage was not great, and the electronics were a little wonky sometimes, but for the most part, my family has run several of those into the ground and they were good vehicles
the v8 is kick ass, with the 4wd, it gets a LOT of power through the tires

I've been in quite a few of those when they broke down.
From what I can tell they are @#(!ty gas hogs with debatable reliability and a low practicality rating unless you're a $#@!ing lumber jack.
If you use it as a commuter, you are stupid.
If you use it as a commuter but take it off road on the weekends, you're still stupid because you should be on a dirtbike or an ATV instead of being a pussy and climbing rocks while you have AC and Katy Perry playing on the stereo.
Also, just about every mechanic I know has nothing but bad things to say about that particular vehicle.
