Come on now lets make this totem pole much more realistic.
Edit: Add Heyoka on peyote dancing around it with a firestick and a hatchet for good measure.Mastametz wrote:QUOTE (Mastametz @ Apr 2 2011, 09:49 PM) Totem Pole:

Most of this thread seems to be pretty stupid name calling, but I'll make one last go at writing a proper response, since Virulence asked for feedback so nicely.

Here's a few more things that trouble me.
First of all, Virulence said he wanted a core balanced for more competetive SG play. It's a bit hard to see how this will happen when there are wild changes going away from core aspects of gameplay that have held their form for a decade. If anything it will mean lower quality gameplay. In a more traditional core people who mostly / only play squad games get full benefit from their years of experience. In XC only people who actively follow the lates changes will know the new balance points. The biggest advantage is for Virulence as a commander, and it's unlikely to give him a more serious challenge in squad games, as I think he wanted. A really good commander with hundreads of games commanded will be pretty damn surprised when he tries to use SY in a squad game played on XC4.
On the detail level there are very odd things. I'd still like to know why Virulence felt that Expansion needed several perks. Was it really too weak your opinion?
Focusing more on carriers is a change that emphasizes the role of the commander over that of the players. Is that an improvement?
SY as it's own path. How is that a good idea anyway? SY is fun occasionally, but as an everyday fare turreting and especially flying vs. caps loses it's charm pretty fast.

Also it's past funny to see people complain about changing Gauss into working like other AoE weapons (and actually rewarding aiming ability), and taking all the wild changes and change backs that Virulence is doing with not so much as a hickup. Especially tragicomical as when used in a SG, gauss was wreaking havoc as before. Cosmetic change vs. removing proper boosters from fighters (while giving better ones to ints) and nerfing gatlings vs. util.

Wouldn't it be nice if it was possible to talk about this stuff like adults? Name calling and dirty tricks will only alienate more of the player base, and we have precious little to lose. I hope Virulence is also motivated by his affection and dedication to Allegiance. If that is the case, we should all be on the same side.
This is simply not true. Playerbase was a steady 400 before this sillyness, and now has plunged to ~350. It may not seem all that dramatic, but it sure isn't an increase. PuGs have much fewer squadded players now, as the dirty tactics and name calling to make XC the new DN have put a lot of people off.Kumquat wrote:QUOTE (Kumquat @ Apr 2 2011, 01:56 AM) I would say that XC is stimulating the player base. People get bored with the same thing all the time which is why we have steadily gone through core after core. XC is the new wave. CC had its time and that time is now over.

<bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH
<bp|> or an obsessive compulsive paladin of law like Adept
I agree with Adepts main point here.
We need to stop the poo flinging else we risk losing the alleg playerbase. I am not one of those who thinks less is better. When there were 1000+ active people the games were way more fun and way less stressful for new players.
As I always point out in CC whenever I'm there, the core aspect of the game shouldn't be total balance; but fun.
Some changes are great, others not and the power Viru has over the CC is the massive lack of Red Tape. Good or bad is as defined by the dictator.
So, instead of calling Adpet 'inept and calling out Das and the people who want alleg to succeed retarded idiots. Why don't you either A) support them by giving your advice or
take over is a diplomatic way.
All this poo flinging does is make the hard working people stop working on the game and that is nearly always BAD. None of us want alleg to go the way of the dodo do we?
So lets stop with this @#(!, talk about each change with logic and cut out the name calling. People who prove to be mindless and stupid about things can just get blacklisted from the core development forums and everyone else can talk. So lets $#@! the red tape, lets spearhead alleg into a growing community where it is less hostile and ready to grow again.
You'd find out very quickly that the new players might have Programming skills to further alleg, or admin skills to help ease the load on the current ones. Or even just so much thirst and energy that they can make events fun, squads more active and the community better.
Even if the "core war" @#(! isn't what is causing alleg to fail, it damn well isn't helping. Furthermore, we should make the community better just by setting a good example.
TL:DR; grow the $#@! up people.

I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Remember, what I say is IMO always. If I say that something sucks, it actually means "I think it sucks" OK?
